I’ve been looking for a word to capture the net effect of LLM chatbots and I think “decompetence” might be it. More than abetting incompetence, they actively generate it over time. This may be what frightens CEOs who are close to the tech most. That it is ultimately bad for the bottom line.

A nit that affects my personal enjoyment of science fiction is when someone fabricates a premise (fine and good) and then attempts to tie that premise to real science that does not support the premise. Positing parallel worlds that people can travel to is great. Don’t drag superposition into it.

After baking a sourdough loaf every five days or so for over two years, I stopped this summer and left a jelly jar half full of starter in the fridge for a couple of months. This week I poured a bit of hooch off the top, put it through a couple of levains and baked a lovely artisan boule. 👍
