This used to be about as dynamic as they got! Everyone was either half-crouching or doing star jumps

Starblayde @starblayde.bsky.social · 03/01/2025

Welcome back Andy, hope you're well. You missed my finished Nathaniel Garro! Came together from photoshopped inception to actual mini quite nicely I think.

So I guess this is a new supplement to my hobby... if it works! Testing printing to see if I can get it to work properly.

Paint my Death Guard, assemble and paint up a Zone Mortalis board to match them, paint and play some Infinity, and look to getting my Siege-era Blood Angels collected bit by bit. Oh, and maybe some gaming!

Yes, the quick paint over ended up with a glow feel to it - Astartes lighting up armour pieces that aren't just their eye lenses could be very cool

Exactly correct! DG Praetor belt, legs and cape. Garro Torso, arms, head. Random Mk3 backpack and Libertas has the crossguard from a Primaris power sword.

The original idea I had for Garro is the photoshopped concept on the left, sticking 2 minis together. On the right, my final painted, based and nameplated version. Turned out better than I'd hoped! #WarhammerCommunity #DeathGuard #Nerdlings #HorusHeresy #Warhammer30k

A photoshoped concept on the left versus the finished miniature on the right, of a Battle-Captain Nathaniel Garro of the Death Guard Legion, during the Horus Heresy

It's a special occasion when you get to do that. I did one myself recently and it felt straight out of Indiana Jones for a moment.

The #DeathGuard are nearly built, with just 4 Tacticals (for a total of 10) and 5 more Breachers (to make 10), to go with the Missile Squad, Centurion with Command Squad, Apothecary and Garro. This is half of The Seventy!

In a DC Universe where Superheroes are kinda dark and bleh, you get a young, noble and optimistic supermarket to sort all these things out and be a fish out of water again. No grumpiness, just hope.

Thank you! I've managed one line on my previous capes for Thousand Sons, so I figured for Garro I'd try parallel lines 😅

I think the only valid complaint is that in Witcher 3, playing as a weirdly underpowered yet overpowered Ciri was a jarring speedbump quest, and maybe that a full game of that could be undesirable. Beyond that? Eh, usual nonsense.

Progress on Battle-Captain Nathaniel Garro continues, with WIP Voyen, Qruze and some bases in the background.

A work in progress Nathaniel Garro miniature

I'm starting with 1,000 points (Garro, Apoth Voyen, Qruze and a command squad, 15 Tacs, 10 Breachers, 5 Missile Launchers) for 37 models. With a few Terminators and a bunch of Inductii I think I can get to exactly 70 with 2,000 points - mostly infantry is very Death Guard, and so is being on a ship

WIP Wednesday Post a Work in Progress 👇

This stunning Black Templar Eradicator miniature, expertly painted by Andy TheBrushSmith, showcases a masterful interpretation of the John Blanche-inspired grimdark aesthetic. The model features intricately weathered black power armor with striking white shoulder pads, accentuated by bold red details such as the helmet lens and subtle iconography. The plasma gun’s yellow casing is meticulously detailed, bearing the iconic Imperium skull emblem, while a weathered bronze muzzle adds depth and realism. The right knee pad displays a vibrant hazard stripe pattern, adding a unique pop of color to the overall palette. The base complements the miniature perfectly, depicting a barren, war-torn landscape with cracked earth textures. The dark, gothic tones and precise edge highlights give the model a dramatic, gritty feel reminiscent of Blanche’s iconic art style. This piece is a perfect example of how to combine storytelling, expert technique, and a love for Warhammer 40K lore into a single, breathtaking miniature.

So much so it's weird for me to see "Thadrin" without the "BB". Days of the community keeping things going with the Galak Starscraper rulebook look long gone - haven't played it myself in 10 or 12 years

The Death Guard bits are arriving steadily, with Breacher shields, bases and scuplted pauldrons to come next, but the exciting part is I now have the bits to build the Nathaniel Garro of my hobby dreams. The next question is do I have the skill? This kitbash is going to be trickier than I thought!

I think the plans turned out pretty well! This Contemptor-Boxnaught hybrid still needs some decoration before he's ready to defend the walls of the Imperial Palace, but the basic bits and pose are all sorted. Now for a bit of bling!

The encounter, a phenomenally enjoyable and close game, finished Thousand Sons 14-16 Space Wolves, and the saga of the Burning of Prospero adds another chapter. The Sons of Magnus, however, are now out of the double-elimination tournament. But what a way to go!

Despite early successes, it was the brutal charges of the Varangyr that turned the tide of the battle, as many threads were cut in the wake of their ferocity

The 90s Blood Angel Overseer Centurion is still coming along, in between building the Militia that he's going to be ordering about. Needs a bit more shading and a more orange-y highlight, I think

Ahhh, nooo the chunky cuirass ones aren't my style *at all*, lol. This is for Nate Garro and his lean and loyal band of noble Death Guard, whose armour has actually seen what a hosepipe and soapy water looks like 💦😅

Honestly, I really like the Primaris minis, they're well designed, clean, easy to paint and look great. Just didn't like the 10th ed rules at all, Heresy is much more my game.

As one set of orders is processing and shipping its way to me to build my 30k Death Guard project (and a little bit more!), it's equally as exciting to be packing up my spare Primaris models and bits to send off as a care package to a new young player taking their first steps in the hobby.
