In 1974(I think) BBC2 had a early evening season of sci-fi movies. Forbidden Planet, The Day The Earth Stood Still, Them , The Incredible Shrinking Man and a few others. It was brilliant and obviously put together by someone who knew and loved sci-fi movies( and knew what kids would love)

A couple of weeks ago on 6Music( I think it was Cerys) played the complete version of the Wombles theme tune - it was like an amazing song that had been left off Sgt Peppers

I always liked it because it meant you were watching telly at school instead of boring lessons.

When I worked in Pizzaland(UK ‘pizza’ restaurant) , they had a fish and chip pizza . As disgusting as that might sound it tasted like a fish finger and chip sandwich covered in melted cheese- yep , that good.

Yep, and the thing is it has the right pedigree- The cast , Richard Lester , Spike Milligan- but just meanders from one scene to another. Radio 4 did it as a play a few years ago , adapted by John Antrobus and Paul Merton ( I’ve not listened to it , so don’t know if it’s any good or not)

My memory of this was it was pretty much the same formula as The Fugitive/Invaders/Incredible Hulk. Arrive in a town , meet someone who can help them , sandman turns up etc.. And they had a hover car that you only really saw moving from the windows up

It’s nice to know that Mr Witt from ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ got himself a decent job on the BBC news after a fairly rubbish stint as a hit man

I wonder if some kids super glued his hat to his head as a prank and he can’t remove it. The only other reason is he thinks it looks cool , and if he does then he’s a total fanny ( which we all knew anyway)

People say that kids were slimmer in the 80s because there was less junk food. It’s because we spent 2 hours every Friday night furiously running on the spot to Ska at the Legion Hall disco

The stuff he bought is weird , like he gets an idea in his head and is obsessed with it - vacuum cleaners, pens etc..- and if you can be bothered scrolling through the 107(!!) pages of stuff on the BBC he appears to have bought about 100 cappuccino mugs over 4 years

I tried re- watching Heat a couple of weeks ago and it was like a bad 80s tv movie-the dialogue is terrible, the acting awful. Michael Mann has only made one decent movie - The Keep

OK- I guess I don’t have the personal experience. So if he can also make his books a cautionary tale then that’s a good thing

Yeah , he was and I get that. I’ve tried reading some of his later books and it sort of dominates them and distracts from the actual story - Doctor Sleep- although I guess the Shining was also about alcoholism.

I re-read it a couple of years ago and it wasn’t that bad- it’s pretty much ‘Quatermass and the Pit’ , and very readable. But apart from preachiness about booze , he should never make his characters poets (Gard in TommyKnockers)or singers e.g. ‘Baby can you dig your Man?’ from The Stand

Yeah me too. I’d always thought ELO were really naff( my dad always said they were Beatles rip-offs- which they sort of were). But I think I always secretly liked them. Great use of Peace Frog and Let me Roll It in Liquorice Pizza as well. Plus it’s great hear those songs through cinema speakers

The coastal path between Ellie and Crail is well worth a walk ( in either direction). Not too far , not too strenuous, lovely villages and sights -Caplie Caves , St Monans castle-and a sky that goes on forever . And if you like a pint , nice pubs at both ends.
