I don’t do trim work very often, and I always second guess myself and do the cuts wrong. So for this crown molding I made four (really six) reference pieces. #carpentry #woodworking #diy
Four pieces of crown molding cut and labeled as samples to correctly duplicate the angle and direction needed for inside and outside joins.

Something I wish it hadn’t taken me so long to learn about woodworking is that you’ll probably spend at least half your time building jigs that make it possible to build the thing you wanted to make in the first place. There’s probably a metaphor in there somewhere. #woodworking

Because sometimes people need to hear this: If you want to make some art, just make it. If you're worried it's going to be bad, that's fine. Make bad art just because you want to try. You don't have to show it to anyone if you don't want to. You don't have to finish it either! Just do it for fun!

This may be the most perfect tweet ever written.
A Twitter user asks, “Why is academic writing so awful?” The reply reads, “The opacity of academic prose arises from the epistemological imperative to operationalize disciplinary jargon, facilitating intra-specialized discourse while obfuscating heterogenous interpretive accessibility and perpetuating a recursive dialectic of erudition and exclusion.”

My new office is (was) really echoey and a little boring. So this weekend I went to Lowe’s to pick up some 4’x4’ squares of 1” insulating foamboard, and to Jo-Anne’s Fabrics for several yards of felt in different colors. A few hours later: DIY modular acoustic panels.

More from my footstool project. From assembly to completion. This is the first project I’ve mass produced. Everything up until now has been one-offs. Except for the walnut accents, all were made with discarded lumber reclaimed from our library that was being renovated.
Rough-cut tops, legs, and cross pieces being prepared.Parts for all ten footstools stacked and ready for individual assembly.Through-tenons glued up after final assembly. My mortises weren’t perfect on this one and I had to use some shims to tighten them up.All ten footstools assembled and ready to gift. All made from reclaimed birch and pine taken from old library shelving that was being thrown out.
