"Your brains stop developing at age 25" was a press misrepresentation of a study. They wanted to see if brains continued to develop after adolescence, so the study was capped at age 25. A later study with a wider subject pool showed that brains are ALWAYS developing our whole lives.

Helicopters over urban areas are loud, intrusive, obnoxious, and an unnecessary risk. There should be a lot more controls than there are on who gets to fly over urban areas. I cannot think of a single damn reason that TV reporters should be using helicopters.

This perhaps seems contrary to wanting weirder, less tidy stories, but I want so badly for there to be thought about cause/effect, resource collection/allocation, and (if there’s a “this is like medieval [x] or European renaissance [y]” vibe) more engagement w/ what symbols/systems are borrowed.

It’s about time we had a reckoning with the need so many writers feel to over-explain everything aspect of their stories, even in non Weird genres. Readers don’t need to be babied. Let us figure things out. Leave room for interpretation. Over-explanation makes writing worse.

seems like in the age of instagram and tiktok chasing trends/popular issues, the value of hyperlocal reporting is being lost. plug in your neighborhood and report what is happening at that level because it's where you're an expert AND can also have the most impact if you pick something to focus on!

From "Words for Thought" by A.C. Wise: It's a gorgeously written and evocative story, and a fun concept that is treated seriously, therefore never coming off as silly. Kane puts a unique twist on the haunted house subgenre, demonstrating that there are always new stories to be told. A haunting doesn't always take the expected path, and this is a wonderful reminder of that fact.
