Every reasonable person on both sides should have no problem with these suggestions.

The most loved cat where I work needs a home. He is 4 years-old & he was hit by a car. He lost an eye, his broken jaw was wired shut, & a feeding tube was placed. The owners brought him back again for more care, then they went off on vacation & we never saw them again. He only has us now. 1/3

Screw this building blocking the Empire State Building. I can’t believe was this even allowed (there was a battle). Had I taken the picture a few steps to the left it would have been completely hidden. Of course the building contains “luxury” apartments.

I’ll be reading at the Village Story Salon on 10/8, 6PM, at the New York Public Library, Hudson Park Branch, 66 Leroy Street. The theme is BLOOD. Leroy Street is one of my favorite blocks in the West Village, and I encourage you to take a walk along the block before or after the reading.

It’s September 23 and I just spotted my first Halloween decorations (not counting stores, which have already had Halloween items out for sale for weeks). This is New York City, downtown, on my way to physical therapy for twisting my ankle.

I have treated myself to Emily St. John Mandel’s latest book, Exit Party. She is one of my favorite living writers. I know most people’s favorite book of hers is Station Eleven, which I adore, but mine is The Glass Hotel. It’s a masterpiece.

Bali (the black cat) loves Bleecker, but Bleecker has mixed feelings. I saw this, had to get a picture, and Bali’s expression is saying, “Okay, but no sudden moves, don’t get too close, for the love of God please don’t ruin this for me."

Please note that a bunch of Dem Senators have decided to support Abdul El Sayed. That’s because the polls are already showing he is going to win. None have shown up for Angie Nixon. This is infuriating.

In May 2002, at the official end of the recovery effort at ground zero, Barbara Horn (no relation, but we’re honorary cousins) sang “I Will Remember You” to all of us. She has a beautiful voice and it made me cry. She sings it every year and every year she makes me cry. 1/2

During the recovery effort a ramp was installed behind St. Paul's Chapel to help people see the WTC site. It may seem bizarre, like a tourist attraction, but I understood people's deep need to be there. To see it with their own eyes. To be able to say to their grandchildren I was there.

The next entry in my ongoing series, Faces I Can’t Resist. (I work in an animal hospital and I love your babies.) I took a billion pictures of this baby but none can compete with this shot taken by my co-worker, Young Kim. This little one is the Helen of Troy of Kittens.

A portrait of Lillian Spyr Helfenstein, painted by Elsie Southwick Clark. Not very flattering, it has a Gloria Swanson/Sunset Boulevard feel. I prefer Clark’s Portrait of Jane Peterson. Helfenstein’s backstory, if you’re curious, it’s related to my singing book: stacyhorn.com/2013/09/18/j...

When writing The Restless Sleep (about the NYPD’s Cold Case Squad) I was able to browse very old crime scene photos. This was a 1950s Brooklyn murder. Boxer George Abdinoor (aka The Sheik) was murdered by boxer Joe Hassan (The turk). Pretty gruesome, but not close to the worst I saw (& didn't save).

Bali, the black cat, loves Bleecker, who is home on palliative care and won’t be with us for too much longer, although he is doing relatively well now. Bali will still have Bodhi, his brother, but they have mixed feelings for each other. 1/2

The next entry in my ongoing series, Faces I Can’t Resist. (I work in an animal hospital and I love your babies.) In the name of all that is holy, how are we supposed to work with this little one around? She was adopted by someone here & I'm guessing there was a cage fight to see who gets her.

Sad post alert. I’ve started putting aside my favorite photographs of Bleecker, my cat who was diagnosed with carcinoma, and who is at home on hospice care. He’s doing well currently, I didn’t expect him to live this long! The 2nd pic is him as a baby. He has always loved to sleep on his back.

I think about where we'd be if Al Gore and Elizabeth Warren had each become president. The progress we would have made with climate change, alternative energy, & financial crimes. Financial crime & corruption is so rampant & unrecognized I don’t know how we'll ever recover. tinyurl.com/36rwzy5e

Preventing some Iranian villagers from getting drinking water does nothing to prevent the IRGC from firing missiles and drones. Water is a red line. I know those of you who hate the US military and US foreign policy won’t care about the difference, but it’s significant, with very bad implications.

The US built the greatest talent magnet ever, attracting the smart, skilled, and striving. They’d come to study, then stay and build things here, or leave with positive impressions and fruitful connections. Helped make the US wealthy and powerful. Then America chose to throw it away. And for what?

Seen in the New York City subway last night. If you read the fine print, it’s about organ donation. The next sign over read, “How to outlive your ex.” But someone was sitting in front of it, and it felt rude to take a picture.
