Calling all St Andrews Classicists!

The St Andrews Network for Working Class Classicists is conducting a survey in collaboration with the School of Classics Equality, Diversity, & Inclusion Committee.

Please take a few minutes to fill this in if you haven’t already!

The aim is to analyse socio-economic inequality within our discipline. The plan is for the results to be examined by the EDIC, NWCC, and presented in a report. This report will be the basis for further dialogue about socio-economic inequality in Classics at St Andrews and beyond. The results will hopefully substantiate the claims of those of us already in the dialogue, as well as provide information that could bring further traction to the discussion.

Your participation is anonymous. If you have any questions about the survey, please email: rlhw@st-andrews.ac.uk

Presented by Ramus International, hosted by Emma Wilson (Texas State University), George Brocklehurst (Institute of Classical Studies), and Xiyuan Meng (University of St. Andrews).

Contact: Dr. Emma Wilson, emmaemma@txstate.edu

Deadline for abstracts: 15th September 2026.We welcome submissions from any field of study and seek to put together multidisciplinary panels to allow conversations to flourish across traditional disciplinary borders. v The attributes of ‘decadent’ style from classical rhetoric to modern literature.

v Tropes of civilisational decay and their mobilisation across cultural contexts.
