I believe they also announced they would remove the "mansion tax" too which decreases the disincentive to upsize

Is the easiest answer that the terms were put in place by the Starmer government but Burnham took over before they'd established the membership and it got lost/deprioritised when Haigh took over. Now someone is trying to cover up the fact that they forgot about it?

Don't worry they'll ease the housing market by getting rid of environmental regulations so homeowners have to spend more on bills and their target voters can't object to building on the green space around them

Not just refusing to downsize but cashing in investments to upsize

Given 30% of homes have 2 or more spare bedrooms, this is exactly the opposite of what needs to be done. We need to build far fewer houses if the ones we have are used more efficiently. Why announce 2 policies at the same conference that work against each other?

Do these include tactical voting?

Diplomacy and sanctions. Working to disarm Hamas, making Israelis feel safer so they will vote for moderates. Using what we learned in NI to facilitate peace. I admit it isn't easy but I'm not sure how adopting a slogan helps

Politics is about compromise. If a price for being listened to on policies such as rent controls, mass home insulation programs and nature recovery is that the party works towards a two state solution which although imperfect is infinitely better than the situation now, I know where I would land

Even if they didn't form part of the next government, a Lab-Lib coalition would have a lot less issue working with and borrowing policy from a party that hadn't adopted this slogan.

What positive practical difference does it make to the Green party platform? Politics is all about tradeoffs, is this statement worth not getting a chance to be in government and enacting workable policies such as rent controls or the zero hour bill?

A reform win which needs Tory support at the next election is a loose-lose for her. Either be part of a Farage government that would probably fall apart pretty quickly given their local government record or fail to support them and be replaced as Tory leader representing the 2nd opposition party

I'm not sure the Tories know who their target voters are anymore. This policy seems designed for a Tory target demographic (well off, middle class, young families) which I'm not sure has contemplated voting Tory since the days of Cameron and needs a lot more convincing than this

How many of the flights to/from London airports are within GB or to places like Paris and Amsterdam? If the money was invested in rail capacity (efficiently unlike HS2) we could free up airport capacity. Putting in place a law like France banning flights where rail is under 4 hours gives direction

I'd argue there isn't anything wrong with an MP new to speaking in the chamber refining their speech using AI. Given that I recognise many of these names though I don't think that is the case here

Which is where the commons needs to consolidate casework and hold the government departments that generate the most issues to account. Maybe a casework committee should be formed that can summon ministers etc

Unfortunately, net zero is incompatible with growth in every postcode, unchecked growth of AI and removing climate targets from government procurement

How many flights are internal GB flights or to nearby cities such as Paris, Brussels or Amsterdam? If capacity is a problem let's build a rail network capable of taking that traffic. But first increase APD for every flight you take

Let's pretend she is correct that people would just move. Are there the schools, doctors, jobs etc for them when they get there? And what about the places they leave behind, who are doing the low paid jobs that have been left?

I note that the voices on the right that are usually so critical of bishops raising humanitarian and asylum issues are not saying that the chief rabbi should stay out of politics.

As with much of the devolution agenda the problem is what happens in areas where SAs are not yet agreed, let alone stood up in the meantime. Even then the current ICBs can't be mapped neatly onto existing county or unitary areas as a number sit closer to borders and serve a wide geography

I can understand why new MPs would want their own political advisors but casework is much less political so is there an argument for caseworkers to be employed by the house and assigned to a constituency? It also solves issues like HR, training (that was raised in HoC yesterday) and prepares for PR

From the C4 report, it seemed that the telegraph and the times published the reports before it had been determined who was paying for it so either they didn't do due diligence or JL Partners lied

Certainly got some things wrong but I was disappointed that the speaker reprimanded him for giving too much detail in answers. Question time should take as long as it takes to answer the questions on the order paper. In Australia, QT can go on for hours but also any minister can answer

Part of the issue is that she hasn't got enough talented MPs to fill her shadow cabinet that aren't associated with Truss and/or Johnson.

Farage is able to ignore his constituents and spout lies and his voters will still elect him. I think Polanski would want to support democratic institutions and do the best job as an MP he can. Even if you doubt he thinks that, he would still have to appear to be doing that or tarnish the brand
150
Mark Stamp @stackey83.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
Not sure there's a positive outcome for Polanski here. Don't stand and lose credibility having said you would stand off a London seat came up, stand and perform poorly and lose credibility, stand and win means he has to be in parliament rather than touring the country making speeches.
