Back to school means I need to make little Schultüten for my German 1 students. It’s a tradition when kids in Germany begin 1st grade, they get cones filled with treats. So when my students come into their first year of German, they get the mini version - 69 of them this year!

Last night I’m working in my upstairs office, the one above the garage. I hear scratching on the window screen. I pause. It goes away. Then it comes back. More scratches. It’s midnight. I’m so excited to say that a short story I wrote, one that I challenged myself to do by stepping out of my comfort zone and experiment with speculative fiction, was accepted for publication in an anthology. I’m over the moon! I celebrated with cookies. 🤭💜
