Thinking of adding skulls back into 2 player. There's more licence to experiment when the other player can revive you.

I want each player to be able to "wake up" the other if they brick themselves. Might be fun to add dots to a player who keeps dying so you'll need multiple matches to wake them later.

Seeing if I can make Six Match into Slop Match. Some bugs, but mostly works. Yes players can move out of sync, the board has regional-locking like Zookeeper. If it's not animating you can move into it.

I wind down making a game about an AI, where I wrote my own dialogue system that reads from a spreadsheet, and then I open Bluesky. I would have prefered this discourse to have happened sooner.

Peaked too soon with my dig-at-Clair-Obscur boss fights. No follow up worthy. Then I remembered I also don't like the combat in Undertale as well.

Added a poison lake. I gather it improves the rest of an open world by contrast.

Easy Delivery Co. is part Colin McRae Rally, part egg and spoon race, all Death Stranding-like. Quite promising so far. Wobbly deliveries and dodgy roads backed up by some survival mechanics. Like I'm describing that Kojima game but the points of tension are very different.

868-Back players, a question: What does the "End" button do? I've tried clicking it a dozen times but nothing happens. I assumed you it would let you abandon a run but no, it just vanishes and sends you back to the same run when you click Run.

No one will give me feedback on my silly adventure game about a vacuum cleaner, so I added open world frog riding to it. I hope you're all happy now.

I'm hoping people ask me if I vibe coded it.

Death Stranding 2 really is more Death Stranding. More map, more awesome traversal, more awkward combat, more awkward stealth, more dodgy boss fights. The story otherwise is no longer insta-skip, it's fine. Mechanics have been both streamlined and expanded. The game knows itself. I give it a 👍

I couldn't find my game without using the weirdest genre tags all at the same time. I'm not confident my next game will do better given that it's harder to categorize.

And yet Godot has an inclusive int random range which is so fucking annoying when trying to pick from an array.

Aaron Steed @st33d.bsky.social · 01/12/2025
I would not expect Clamp to be exclusive under any circumstances as its use is alongside Max and Min functions (also inclusive). (I believe the confusion is coming from random number ranges which are almost always cursed.) As an aside Godot's docs have a clearer definition:

Looking at the Thief class as an example, you're as powerful if not more so than a 5e Rogue at level 1. A lot of 1e clones would rather you suck eggs for a few levels and focus on loot. SD's XP for just loot and throwing parties would go down well with my group. Interested to play, eventually.

I'm enjoying the variety of quests you get. It's not quite Baldurs Gate 3, but still more charming than Solasta. I like the game mechanics better than both, though that's probably from playing lots of OSR. This is more what I'd like D&D to be, especially if it wants to go digital.

I assume it's mostly for VR (which I'm not doing) but the faux gaming table is such a cute touch. I can also recommend the Icewind Dale campaign as it's started off much more focused with this neat mini-dungeon that doesn't rely on respawning mobs like much of the first campaign.

Turns out if you mis-cast Polymorph you're stuck as a rat for the entire fight. Not sure if bug or feature.

It's Demeo X D&D time. This has to be the clunkiest way to talk to NPCs in what is ostensibly* a downtime map (characters take turns - 2 actions a piece), but I prefer it to Sunderfolk's "choose 3 Twine games to play". *Putting on my game review hat.

It has a crracking roguelike* mode in a dungeon called The Dark Tower. You’ll need a Dwarf to survive all the traps, which are a bit meaner than the first dungeon. And you can increase the difficulty by picking wonky classes like the Summoner. * Hardcore mode for permadeath

The Hero Quest-like-a-thon continues with Arcane Quest HD. It’s… literally Hero Quest, but more gear, spells, classes, and dungeons. I’m willing to forgive the movement dice for the commitment to the bit. Wee bit janky, but nothing that’s a deal breaker. Quite fun so far. Free demo too.

Another Hero Quest-like: Dungeons and Dragons Battlemarked. It streamlines much of D&D into 2 cards per character-turn, gaining cards as loot and burning them to level up. I really like what's going on here with big maps to explore, synergies, and little skill checks here and there.

Anyway, I've completed the campaign solo with 2 characters and it was pretty good. Maybe I'll get to play it multiplayer someday, though it will have to be a Steam remote affair as I have no couch to co-op.

There's a mission later on where they turn on you and you have the option to save them. I felt this would be remiss.

Sunderfolk lets you rename things. I have been flippant with this feature.

Solo-ing Sunderfolk's campaign with just 2 characters is quite fun. The choice of barbarian and wizard counts for a lot because if I wasn't able to teleport / throw people off the map I'd be stuck. Maybe when they get one-shot mode in I'll be able to convince some one else to join for a session.

A little strange that they didn't make the engine a mess of edge cases that also requires more artwork.

Blacken Slash is providing a pleasant blend of traditional and puzzle roguelike. Wasn’t so sure about percent modifiers and random damage, but the variety is flavourful after a decade of 1 hit point trades.

I think game ideas have gravity, and are pulled towards other game ideas to create the omnigame - a point in idea space that promises too much to exist. I think it's fine (and fun) to armchair design, but exposure can raise idea-mass to dangerous levels.

Going through Apple Arcade as my trial runs out soon, so I tried Patterned. It’s quite nice but also a bit disappointing as I’m old enough to remember Pandora’s Box, which had the same puzzle with overlapping pieces and no guide. Much harder. Sadly published by Microsoft, so very much dead.

Rogue Trader is pretty decent so far. I'm liking the simple x-com-esque fights. The officer class is fun (like a bard-cleric). And the setting is, well it's Warhammer, which generally lifts any average writing above mediocre.

SAD GOD news: st33d.itch.io/sad-god/devl... Surface-building-shots now clear existing surfaces like spikes. There's a new sticky surface shot. Not drawn the last of the bosses. Also considering persistent levels with the choice to reroll. Out of beta any day now. Any day...
