Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 28/07/2026Having built developer tools for half my career (literally!), I decided to build something “useless” this time. Today I’m announcing RubyLens, a gem that turns your Ruby codebase into a galaxy, as either a page or a video! Here’s an example using Discourse: 160
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 19/07/2026Haven’t posted my workout for a while. Did 70kg and (maybe) 72.5kg weighted pullup yesterday 😙 160
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 29/06/2026The biggest visible change is type information next to method documentation. RBS signatures now show up in both HTML and `ri`, and Aliki presents method entries as signature cards. 121
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 29/06/2026RDoc 8.0.0 is out now. This is the biggest RDoc release in years, and it brings together a lot of the Ruby documentation work I talked about at RubyKaigi. Also, RDoc now has a logo! 1135
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 29/06/2026In the next release, cctop will help you clean up stale worktrees from your finished sessions! 010
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 17/05/2026After weeks of work, Ruby’s master documentation now displays rbs signatures! We will release this feature in RDoc 8.0 soon as well. So any projects using rbs (inline or .rbs files) can benefit from it too. Check it on docs.ruby-lang.org/en/master 1366
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 22/04/2026IRB v1.18.0 was just released with: - Starting banner with Ruby and a few basic info (can be disabled with --nobanner) - Help dialog on commands - Highlighting on method calls Enjoy! #rubykaigi github.com/ruby/irb/rel... 0184
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 04/04/2026RDoc server mode with live reload is almost ready for ruby/ruby. Currently `make html` takes 30-60s and you have to rerun it after every change. With `make html-server`, you get instant live reload. (Just found a bug with page links, but it's getting there) Here is a demo: 170
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 14/03/2026Yesterday I released cctop v0.11.0 with a redesign and 4 color schemes! If you want a lightweight macos app to help you monitor Claude Code/opencode sessions with keyboard navigation, give cctop a try: github.com/st0012/cctop 161

Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 04/01/2026RDoc has always supported Markdown as a markup language. But its support was buggy and lacks documentation. After a year of addressing various related issues, I was able to rewrite a doc for it. I think we'll soon be able to migrate from RDoc to Markdown. ruby.github.io/rdoc/doc/mar... 1206
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 10/11/2025I'm very honored to have received this year's RubyPrize from Matz's hands in Matsue last Thursday, recognizing my work on Ruby and its development tools. I can still remember how nervous I was asking Matz for a picture back in 2016 😂 Time really flies (Photo from @hsbt.org ❤️) 3477
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 11/08/2025Finally got a full #frontlever after entire year of training 😵 Skill difficulties from my experience: frontlever >> one arm pullup >>>>> muscle up 270
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 20/06/2025Never imagined I could do a 200% bodyweight pull-up (my weight + 60 kg plates) even in my early twenties—yet at 31, I got it today 😛 2150
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 24/04/2025It’s been 6 years since my last visit, and @asakusarb still gave me the warmest welcome! Same good vibes, delicious food, and wonderful #rubyfriends. Grateful to be back in such a lovely community 🥰 0192
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 13/04/2025Tomorrow I’m flying to Matsuyama for @rubykaigi with a 100-day 🇯🇵 streak on Duolingo. Still can’t hold a conversation, but hopefully I’ll understand signs and menus a bit better! 030
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 31/03/2025Spent my weekend improving the Ruby MCP prototype to allow: - Fuzzy searching classes - Query class details like ancestors, methods, definitions - Query method details like params, owner, and comments Will try to get it released as experimental feature before RubyKaigi 😁 1183
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 21/03/2025PoC: A Ruby MCP server (powered by Ruby LSP) interacting with the Cursor agent. Ruby MCP can provide your project's: - Dependencies - Indexed classes/modules/methods - Runtime info (powered by a Rails add-on) - Anything else supported by other add-ons to the client. Thoughts? 5377
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 16/03/2025Every week, I spend at least a few hours to make the RDoc codebase a little bit better. 0171
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 12/01/2025Not that it changes anything, but I’m happy to have become the #1 contributor to IRB on all metrics (PRs, commits, lines added, and lines removed) 😄 2170
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 15/12/2024Almost got this combo (almost because my front-lever dipped). It’d be amazing if I can get it before Ruby 3.4’s release at Christmas 😁 010
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 12/12/2024Do you use IRB's integration with debug.gem (irb:rdbg)? Reference: github.com/ruby/irb?tab... Can't do poll here yet, so let me know what you think about it by commenting below 👇 141
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 30/11/2024Let’s give Ruby’s English documentation new homepages! If this is accepted in time, it’ll be applied to the upcoming Ruby 3.4 documentation. We can then explore ways to backport similar changes to older Ruby versions. PR: github.com/ruby/ruby/pu... 3292
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 26/11/2024That brief 1 second took me 3 months. Taking it to 10s will be a battle 😬 #calisthenics 1100
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 23/11/2024A good language’s default tooling should cover most of its developers’ needs right out of the box 🙂 0133
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 09/11/2024I’m already at Chicago for the #RubyConf next week btw. See many of you soon 😄 0100
Stan Lo @st0012.dev · 09/11/2024Earlier this week, RDoc and docs.ruby-lang.org received a great contribution from Alexis Bernard (@alexis_bernard on Twitter): An ancestors list in the class page's sidebar! Once we added a similar section for descendants, navigating between classes will be a much smoother experience. 1114
