Stopped in to visit @joshuakitz.bsky.social’s pop-up in downtown Ottawa today. It’s open through the rest of August. I’m chuffed to see my projects alongside some local greats.

Downtown Byward Market, two white shipping containers are stacked on top of one another. The bottom container has glass walls, with “Compose Dream Games RPG Marketplace” decals. Inside is full of brightly coloured TTRPG books on display from Canada and abroad.

Every hometown’s got the ominous megastructure, what’s yours?

The NDHQ Carling in Ottawa. An aerial photo of the campus amongst greenspace. It’s a collection of connected buildings, formerly the HQ of Nortel Networks until they went bankrupt. Now it’s used by national defence.

It was allegedly full of bugs and wires from international industrial espionage that helped kill Nortel, but DND said they didn’t find any…

The building’s surrounding greenspace is full of Canada Geese nests. They aggressively attack anyone nearby. I wish I was making this up.

Ottawa has backrooms full of ‘90s-era Chinese surveillance tech, surrounded by cobra chickens. The RPG setting writes itself.

It's difficult, but I am reading and watching what's happening. Thinking about it reminded me of another very different protest and gear breakdown pic that broke containment. A CBC article's breakdown of gear pic was shared around a lot. 🧵 [1/4]

Backpack: Typically holds snacks, water, change of clothes. tools and sometimes laser pens to shine in officers' eyes.

Elbow & knee pads: For for falling, crawling and scuffing on city streets

Greetings from Krampus! Victorian-era Christmas cards were wild.

Krampus, wide eyed and with a very long tongue, rides a motor car with two children. One looks at him while holding the horn, and the other one looks on in anguish while in a basket on Krampus’ back.
“Gruß vom Krampus” (“Greetings from Krampus”) is written at the corner of the card.

My printer got me the pre-production copy of Emergence for my birthday! Looking good!

Emergence, a new Mothership zine module, sits in partly sun and shade, still inside protective shrink wrap on an outdoor sofa. The cover features a doomed inmate in yellow jumpsuit losing their mind while simultaneously losing form. Wisps of pink and green flowing outward from the right side of their face.

Emergence is held open to the Quick Reference and Table of Contents. It’s a mix of black blocks of headings and short references in two column layout. The pages have printed texture and have multi-colour ink-blot-like splashes in the white space.

Taking a break from layout for Emergence to have some mark-making fun. This is the corporation that controls the prison in the module. I 3D printed some stamps! Nevermind that I forgot to mirror the shape 😅 Still some work to be done, but stamp ink worked way better than Speedball block print ink.

An ink brayer sits next to two 3D printed stamps of Henkō Acquisitions. They are stained gold due to the ink used.
