I’m feral for pumpkin pie with homemade whipped cream. Also, stuffing, but specifically the stove top box stuffing. I’ve never met a homemade stuffing that’s even come close to hitting the same.

I’m sorry Kind of Anyway: angst and heartbreak ahead

Rey studied the candle: squat, uneven, visible dust on the sides. Beeswax, probably, though she couldn't smell it through the dust and age. With a sigh she trimmed the wick, dug for one of the few, precious matches that remained.
A hiss, a spark, a kiss of transferred flame, and the glow...
She closed her eyes and waited, gasped at the weight of a hand on her shoulder, shivers of ice down her spine.
"You have to stop this, Sweetheart.
You have to let me go."
She bit her lip, shook her head: a silent, broken, pleading no.

"It's not fair. It can't be finished when it never even started"
"This is how it has to be."
She stared at the golden glow, the shadow and flame dancing against the wall.
The silhouette of two people.
He never let go, hand on her shoulder, and she rested her fingers atop his, until the joints and muscles ached and cramped.

"You'll come back again?"
"Every time you call, Sweetheart, whether I should or not."
The flame guttered, hissed, the wick drowned in a pool of melted wax.
It would be restored by morning, just as every day before, one precious hour of wick remaining.
She'd buy more matches tomorrow.
