We support the statement of the family of the victim in Belfast, Stephen Ogilvy:

“We are completely devastated by the horrific attack on our loved one on Kinnaird Avenue. This has been a massive shock to our whole family, and right now, our only priority is being at his bedside and helping him recover.

"We want to say a profound thank you to the local people who bravely stepped in during the attack. Your quick actions absolutely saved his life, and we will never forget what you did for him in that moment. We also want to thank the emergency services and the doctors and nurses looking after him.

"We are aware of the tensions and talk of protests following this incident. We want to make it absolutely clear that overnight unrest is not welcome, and peaceful protest is the only way forward. We have many migrants who make a deeply valuable contribution to our country, including in our healthcare system and hospitality sector and we depend on them to make our country work. We do not want this terrible tragedy to be used to divide people or fuel hostility.

"We are asking the media and the public to please give us some space. We need privacy to focus on our family right now, without cameras or people speculating about what happened. If you know anything at all about the attack, or saw anything strange near Kinnaird Avenue, please go to the police.

We are deeply concerned by the recent incident at Manchester Central Mosque in which a man entered the place of worship during Taraweeh prayers carrying offensive weapons, including an axe, hammer and knife
Thankfullv, due to the swift and courageous actions of mosque volunteers and worshippers, no one was physically harmed and the suspect was detained by the Police.
Places of worship should be safe spaces for reflection peace and community - especially during religious observances such as Ramadan. Any act that brings fear. intimidation or violence into those spaces is unacceptable and must be unequivocally condemned
This alarming incident comes against a backdrop of rising Islamophobic hate crimes and hostility experienced by Muslim communities across the UK Such incidents do not happen in a vacuum and are even more worrying in light of the extreme narratives that have become part of mainstream discourse over recent times, aimed at fuelling division or scapegoatinc minority communities.
SRtRC reaffirm our commitment to building a society free from hatred and preiudice, and encourage people across the UK to unite and make a stand at the Together against the Far Right demonstration on Saturday 28th March.
We stand in solidaritv with Muslim communities and all those who fear for their safetv because of their faith, ethnicity or identity
Together, we must continue to challenge Islamophobia racism and intolerance in all its forms.

Show Racism the Red Card is deeply concerned by reports of alleged racist abuse directed at Vinícius Júnior during last night’s UEFA Champions League match between Benfica and Real Madrid.

No player should be ever subjected to racism in any form. The alleged incident once again highlights the ongoing reality of discrimination in football and the urgent need for stronger, more consistent action to protect players and hold perpetrators to account.

Vinícius Júnior has repeatedly shown extraordinary resilience in the face of abuse, but players should not have to show incredible bravery just to do their jobs. Responsibility lies with clubs, competition organisers and governing bodies to ensure that football is a safe, respectful environment for everyone.

We urge UEFA to investigate these allegations thoroughly and transparently, every allegation of racism must be taken seriously and treated as the beginning of a proper investigation - not a final judgement. Listening, examining the facts, and acting fairly are essential if football is to be a space where players feel safe to speak out and confident that they will be heard.

Last night’s incident involving Gianluca Prestianni and Vinícius Júnior is yet another reminder of why strong, transparent processes matter. Challenging racism means taking concerns seriously, supporting those affected, and ensuring that decisions are based on evidence - all while making it abundantly clear that racism has no place in football or society.

Any proven racist behaviour must be met with clear and meaningful consequences. Education must go hand in hand with sanctions if we are serious about tackling racism in the game.

Football has the power to unite people across cultures and communities. We must not allow racist behaviour to undermine that power. Show Racism the Red Card stands in solidarity with Vinícius Júnior and all players who experience racism, and we will continue working with clubs, schools and communities to challenge prejudice and promote respect on and off the pitch.
