Europe is reducing its reliance on Russian oil. There has been a downward trend over the last few years, with the aim to eliminate its dependence. The US has now decided to buy Russian oil, despite sanctioning other countries who buy it. So one goes down and the other goes up.

And just a reminder that Europe and other countries have backed the US in its various stupid wars. Now, when Europe asks for help, Trump buys diesel from Russia and encourages it to bomb Ukraine. And the US signed a treaty to protect Ukraine after it gave up its nuclear weapons.

No one says it is the US's entire responsibility. But Trump has said the US will no longer protect Europe, as it has since WW2. The loss of the threat of US firepower, not to mention nuclear weapons, has greatly weakened Europe and strengthened Russia. Europe will catch up, but is vulnerable now.

Pine Gap is likely important in collecting intelligence on Russian missile launches, which is exactly the sort of information Ukraine needs. My issue is with the US withholding information that could save Ukrainian lives.

All of the 'deals' the US has cravenly made with Russia will fail. Russia seeks to become a superpower, at the expense of the west, including the US. If Ukraine crumbles, Russia will have its technology, resources and expertise. Once Russia doesn't need Trump any more, he will be weak and exposed.

It appears that US negotiators Witkoff and Kushner and likely the Trump family stand to benefit from the impending sale of Russian oil giant Lukoil. When we understand that, Trump's insistence that Ukraine stop bombing Russian oil refineries makes sense. And Musk is helping, for political gain.
