I thought that Russia had no spare diesel because Ukraine has been destroying refineries? It just looks like Trump wants his people to think he's doing "something" and he (or some AI) has posted this to show how wonderful he is.

They were in the co-op at least a month before that.

I know I've massively simplified and maintenance costs need to be included but surely this could work? Isn't this how council housing used to work? (2/2)

If a private landlord buys a house then they will want to clear the loan in 10 years (maybe less?) so rents are high. If a council borrows to build a home then they can take the lifetime of the building (50+years) to pay off the loan so rents can be lower. (1/2)

Aren't most cars made from parts brought in from all over the world? Possible exception being China that might make every component.

That's a lot of plastic but it's not used for 2 days and binned - it stays in the vehicle for its entire life and probably could be extracted at the end.

Wrapping cucumber in plastic keeps it fresher for longer, reducing food waste. Card weighs more than plastic . No difference for a single 500g pack but shipping thousands of them means the trucks use more fuel. Card has the benefit that you can recycle it and you're not using oil to make packets.

It's a bit like the people who don't like chemicals. Every single thing is a chemical of some sort.

It feels as if there are more herons around but the British Trust for Ornithology suggests that the population is fairly stable. I used to walk over the Regent's Park lake bridge every morning and occasionally there were 3 herons at the side of the lake.

There have been 2 massive bursts near me this year which did get repaired quite quickly but it always looks as if they just replace a short length of broken pipe - there's no kind of planned preventative maintenance.

Lowe split off and created Restore so I imagine that if Jenrick can't become leader of Reform he'll form another breakaway party and take the other Tory rejects with him. I'll offer the name "Renew" and won't charge for its use.

I'm slightly more worried about the claim that it will dehydrate the food. I have visions of the dehydrator used in Batman and I imagine you end up with a pile of powdered lettuce.

I love Coventry cathedral - partly because it reminds me of the Catholic cathedral in Liverpool.

I think that's probably more important than the cost. I heard Rory Stewart talking about the need to avoid dependence on US software and infrastructure - if Trump decides he doesn't want other countries using it then MS could be told to block access so moving to open source feels very sensible.

I took my A Levels in Summer 1975 and bought a Sinclair Scientific calculator the previous year. It also used RPN which confused many people and had nowhere near the features of your HP but it was useful even though you had to work in radians and calculating sin, cosine etc took several seconds.

better than the situation where a user has no idea where they've saved their files so when their computer dies they lose everything. I use OneDrive. I move between Windows, Linux, iPadOS, Android and see all my files. Changes on one are immediately visible on the others and that works for me.

with necessary software and all the user's files are there in OneDrive so less than an hour after opening the box they're back at work. (Similar setup on a Mac but using Jamf or similar to manage it) Obviously, it doesn't always work - Paul has been the victim of some kind of fault - but it's

There are certainly many universities using it as well as individuals. I used to work in university IT, and the benefit I saw is that when a computer develops a fault, gets lost or stolen, you give the user a new machine. They connect to a network and log in. Autopilot configures their machine

On Times Radio, John Pienaar was asking Lee Anderson about the 5 million - was it to cover loss of earnings. Anderson normally can't shut up but he refused to talk about this. I think he and the rest of Reform know how dodgy it looks.

Sorry, that was my point but badly made - we need to continue with a Lady Mayoress.

I think the solution to the confusion between the 2 mayors is to have Lady Mayoresses for the City of London.

Fun fact - that liquid oxygen is magnetic. No idea if that's relevant to the non-existence of god but I was fascinated when I first saw a test tube of oxygen moving towards a magnet.

Hypochlorous acid is basically bleach - it's made by dissolving chlorine in water and I would have said that you want it nowhere near skin but what do I know - a quick search shows that it is sold for skin care. I don't think I'll put it on my skin.

A driverless cab. They're being extensively tested in London at the moment. All the cars I've seen have a safety driver ready to take over if necessary. Waymo had said they would go live in September but I imagine this depends on successful testing.

I'm sure Farage would argue that his language did not intend to stir up hatred but it was very likely that it would do (and actually did stir up hatred). At the very least, he should be arrested and questioned and the CPS could then decide if he should be charged.

That website gives reasons why a council might not collect paper separately (eg cost) but the council must make a written assessment of why they are not doing so. I'm not sure if they have to publish it. My council (LBHF) also mixes recycling Biffa say that they separate the different materials

I know it wouldn't be easy, but are we coming to the point where we should scrap NI and just put up income tax. As a pensioner, I'd lose out but given that income tax and NI basically go in the same pot it feels cleaner.

There's a piece of software which is frequently used by astrophysicists for plotting graphs and it's called Supermongo. The name is normally abbreviated to SM and searching for info about that can give some fun results.
