The MC tonight @locallaughs.bsky.social was Sweeney Preston who did a fantastic job of it. There is an art to hosting a comedy line up and Sweeney ticked all the good boxes. Seriously brilliant. Always good to see a young comedian honing their craft.

So wonderful having Denise Scott back headlining @locallaughs.bsky.social killing with a brand new bit about how shit the entertainment at the NRL Grand Final on the weekend was. And none of us at the Local are sporty, let alone NRL, but she painted the most hilarious picture for us. She was awesome

Denise Scott, in grey shimering silk velvet pants with silver shoes and a lacy white top on the Local Laughs stage with a prop gag at her feet which was an egg that after being imersed grows into what sounds like a life sized Pirate! - Sounds good to me! ;-)

If you take part in the audience participation in this show, he needs 2 brief assistants, he will paint a quick portrait of you to take home! Also one audience member gets to win the main painting. An amusing and very Fringey show.

Naughty knocks off a quick portrait of an audience member (a young chap in black jumper and jeans with curly hair that covers his face) who took part in the audience participation on stage. The stage is in a church with the organ pipes behind him and two rainbow flags.

Tonight's show was Mumbo Wumbo Jumbo by Artist (painter sculpture, performance artist) The Naughty See Monkey. He paints a work while telling tales, dances (He was band Ergot Derivative's gogo dancer) & videos of his life play. It's a retrospective of his life in the scattered style of his art.

The Naughty See Monkey with grey hair and colourful coat and striped pants, stands painting in a Brunswick church while a video plays on a large screen behind him. The painting is given away each night to an audience member.

Me watching Cleopatra recently going "Is that Richard O'Sullivan???" (yep)

Squirrel Comedy @squirrelcomedy.bsky.social · 04/09/2026

Here he is in Carry On Teacher, Richard had a long fabulous career until his stroke at 59. Of course I loved him in Man About the House and Robin's Nest but also whenever he popped up in anything really. Saw him play Liz Taylor's little brother Ptolemi in Cleopatra recently. RIP sweety.

Tonight for dinner I made the dish Rumbledethumps. A sort of Scottish version of Colcannon; lightly mashed potatoes, cabbage and onions with cheese melted over the top in the oven. I added some herbs from the garden. A delicious side to steak.

An enambled dish with half eaten cheesy potato cabbage bake with a big spoon on a linen tablecloth.

I'm missing the lemon tree in my old house soooo much (I used to make a lot of lemon curd and lemon based deserts as you can imagine). It was a big tree and had lemons all year round.

Gorgeous late winter day to go see daffodils at my friend's house in the country. He calls it the Daffodil Party & we've not done it since before 2020. I came home with a bucket full of daffodils. The frogs were loud after the rain has filled the dam & I heard & saw lots of birds inc a pardalote!

A drift of different kinds of daffodils flowering. Also some wattles flowering in the background and trees that have yet to put on their spring leaves because it's still winter.

Saw a fantastic film at MIFF yesterday called Yesterday Island. A sci/fi timeloop, dark comedy, starring Ivan Aristeguieta (Who's amazing in it! He has to virtually carry the film), Francis Greenslade, Florence Noble and David Fane! Filmed on King Island. Can recommend it if you like an indy scifi.

Just saw this fantastic hilarious Aussie play about the bullshit wellness industry. Probably didn’t go as dark as it may have, but it was laugh out loud comedy. Cast was awesome despite Micala Banas being ill. So amazing to see Madeleine Sami and the others were on top form too. Audience had a ball

Headliner tonight @locallaughs.bsky.social was Frank Woodley giving us a big set that felt like an entire show. A long funny build up that had me crying with laughter at the main story, then more silly songs to bring it home. Happiest I've felt in weeks. (I've been moving house & it's not been fun)

Frank Woodley on the Local Laughs stage looking extremely spiffy in his nice fit blue/grey suit, fancy red, black & white geometrical fat tie and his cloth cap. He's holding a hand up that looks too big for a human, the other hand is gripping his lapel. Behind him is his beautiful honey coloured guitar on a stand, also quite big.

I can't tell you how heartbroken I am about Sam Neil leaving us too soon. I was in his presence only a few months ago in Auckland seeing the Hunt for the Wilderpeople 10th anniversary. I'm glad he was treasured that night. He was so bloody adorable and weepy, as I am now. 💔

Had the almighty pleasure of experiencing Suzy Eddie Izzard's one person Hamlet tonight. Her sibling Mark adapted the play to 1/2 it's length & it was like a band playing its greatest hits. Suzy was brilliant at bringing the words to life. I love Hamlet like an old friend though. And Suzy. Perfect.

In 2015 I was in New York when David Letterman did his last show. I got to see stuff being chucked into dumpsters out the side of the building. Hello Deli was sadly shut when we went there as it was the Memorial Day weekend. I've watched the Late Show since it started showing in Australia in 1993.

The side of the Ed Sullivan Theatre where the Hello Deli was just off Broadway in 2015. There is a long Advert for the Late Show With David Letterman's face and one up the top for book of Morman at the Eugene O'Neil Theatre. We did see Book of Morman while there too.

The front of The Ed Sullivan Theater in New York. The sign says Ed Sullivan Theater, LATE SHOW with David Letterman. There is also an Angelo's Pizza on the ground foor. Next door was a Shake Shack, I think.

One thing I'm loving is that almost all of the comedians I've seen so far have paid tribute to Cal Wilson, even by just mentioning her name. Rove got a big reaction from the audience tonight when showing a picture of Cal from her first apearance. It's lovely and we all miss her together.💗

A blue oval tribute plaque (like the ones in London) placed on the venues of the Melbourne Town Hall from the 40th Anniversary of MICF. It says: CAL WILSON Lighting up our venues from 2001 to 2023. It has been decorated by pretty things; flowers and fauna, a mask and a gonk.
