I live by a strict "the player plays the way the game teaches them to play" way, so if people aren't playing the way I want them to, I'll change systems/add systems so they do. One example of negative reinforcement is your moves now degrade in power if you spam them (it resets every 4 seconds)

Over the last 20 weeks, not the last 9 years. We didn't do playtesting outside of conventions before then. I think the ones that changed the game the most were when we learned people were playing defensively and added things like health bonus for good combos (encouraging more aggressiveness)
