worldbuilding pet peeve: when someone translates a poem from a fictional language to english, but it still rhymes in english!!!! direct translations usually don’t rhyme!!!!!!! the one ring inscription gets a pass I GUESS because tolkein made a whole elvish language and it also rhymes there

my hope is that the system is simple enough to be quick, but complex enough to be interesting. from my python demo I think it strikes a good balance! the deckbuilding format also adds a ton of possibilities for expanding the concept and having some sense of progression

new cards can be purchased or unlocked, so you can switch out your deck as you please. the starter deck has 4 cards of each suit, but maybe a balanced deck isn’t your thing. have to stick with 16, but otherwise go nuts

at any time you can “coalesce”, adding the aspect to your star, along with its potency! however, the more aspects you add, the harder the minigame becomes. to coalesce more aspects and make bigger stars, you’ll need upgrades

you get three cards in your hand, each a different suit. after playing a card, you draw another from the deck (must be a different suit from your other two unless none are available) after you play a card, the stability will randomly increase or decrease, usually away from 0

your deck has 16 cards divided into four suits: ENTROPY: decreases stability INERTIA: increases stability POTENTIAL: increases potency CHANGE: miscellaneous effects (i.e. set stability to random value, trigger next card twice, etc)

each encounter with an “aspect” is based around stats: stability and potency. stability goes from -10 to 10, and shifts randomly each round. if it hits either end of the scale, the aspect collapses (but you get some currency as a consolation prize) potency is your “score”, make it go up!!

daily squid update next thing I wanted to figure out was the star-creating minigame. this is a big part of the core loop, so it’s important to make sure it’s interesting! I used python to prototype a deckbuilder-inspired system which I think works quite nicely!
