Maybe you only wanted to be a certain gender because it made you feel happy. That's not a bad thing. That's the whole point of transitioning! But dysphoria and imposter syndrome would have you think otherwise.

The best advice I've ever heard is that euphoria matters the most. Gender dysphoria is the discomfort from presenting differently than we want to, right? It's also worrying that maybe we're not trans enough. That maybe our identities are invalid and we're just faking it.

Combined with the repression for about 17 years of life (barring those 5 or 6 months in 2022 which actually served as a great reference point for what gender euphoria felt like) I have learned to see the world believing I am a cis male and everything I experience is simply a cis male thing.

I think our environments growing up really shape how we feel about being gay, bi, trans, or any other form of LGBTQ+. At age 14 I knew I was a girl, but my home environment, my school, everything, made it impossible to come out.

I highly, HIGHLY recommend checking out the gender dysphoria bible. It has helped me and so many others alleviate at least some of our confusion: genderdysphoria.fyi Do bear in mind that it's written from the perspectives of trans fems, but it is essentially gender-neutral. Anyone can read it.

Hey so, short answer: YES, it is very normal. For a bit of insight, I'm a trans girl. I have known about this for over 4 years now, but only in the past year or so have I accepted it. I'm going to tell you a story that MIGHT help. I'm only speaking from personal experience here.
