Happy Sunrise at the #southpole #Antarctica this weekend! Officially it happens on the #equinox, but sunrise takes several days/weeks given the unique geographic location on Earth's axis. Pic by winterover Michel of sunrise behind the South Pole marker. @NSF @doescience

Picture from winterover Michel of SPT this week. Still a couple weeks away until #sunrise, however you can still see the glow from below the horizon to the left of this image. Clear dark blue skies and great observing this past week. #LaborDay @NSF @doescience #Antarctica

Another picture this week from winterover Michel during telescope greasing this week. Continuing to get brighter out, but nearly full moon is the brightest thing in the sky, and still incredibly clear winter #southpole skies! @doescience @NSF #Antarctica

About 1-month until #sunrise at the #southpole, and the sky is getting brighter. And no, that is the #moon above SPT, but still dark enough to see some meteors and #aurora. Pic by winterover Michel. @NSF @doescience

Cool picture of Michel greasing the outside gears of the telescope, which the winterovers have to do every 2-weeks. Seems like the lens might have started icing up a bit during this picture, creating a glow around the telescope. Pic by Anjali. @doescience @NSF #Antarctica
