Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 17hI went to public school, had great teachers, got a great education and went on to college and I hate the thought that we wouldn't make a five-day-week with a library, music program and gym class a federal minimum standard for the country. 020
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 17hJust heard an interview with Gina Hinojosa and she mentioned that some public schools have gone to a four day week. That's a giant red blinking light that the system is being starved out of existence. 120
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 22hI'm sure that most of the people who own these bought them because it was a fairly opaque way to legally bribe the Trumps and losing that money is part of the quid pro quo, but anyone who bought these expecting to make money deserves whatever happens to them. 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 22hAbsolutely reflects a world where we realistically only have two dozen swing Congressional districts and five or so swing states and the most likely way an incumbent senator or rep gets dejobbed is by losing a primary and Trump is REALLY effective at primarying senators. 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 22hThat said, I thoroughly enjoyed the new Naked Gun movie and it would have been even funnier laughing through it with a theater full of people. 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 22hAlso, once you know all the characters, long-running storylines aren't as important. Thinking of something like Arrested Development or The Office - both are good, and the episodes are self-contained enough that you can start any episode and quickly pick up any residual plot points. 100
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 22hJust thinking that there's less of a need to do complex character development or build a complex plot structure with comedies and the full storyline can generally be developed inside a half-hour runtime, so they lend themselves well to streaming as a series. 100
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 23hI think that if the impeachment and conviction votes were both secret ballots, Republicans would frame it as replacing a corrupt, unhinged and unpopular Donald Trump with JD and I think most of them would do it if they didn't have to worry about individual retribution. 110
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 23hDuring his first term, Trump was underwater within a few months and Republicans in Congress could have removed him and replaced him with Mike Pence, who is everything they ever wanted politically and not clinically insane and I was a little surprised they didn't do so. 110
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 23h"Thank you for signing up for the gold tier of CPAC so you can get a few minutes with the people you'll need to bribe. Here's your gift bag. Hope you like crap!" 062
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 23hImagine going out and buying a suit that looks that schlumpy and is tailored to leave an extra three inches of pantleg flapping in the breeze. Do they also make the ties that are long enough to circumnavigate the globe? 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Trump has pissed off enough senators where they actually can stop stuff in committee and, often, in the entire chamber and none of them have the courage to even say "you don't get your lawyer as AG, you can't write yourself checks from the Treasury and you can't name shit after yourself." 120
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I'm hating on Cornyn and Cassidy for failing to stand up to Trump at all after he primaried them, but I'm REALLY pissed that Tillis made one principled vote against Medicaid cuts, decided not to run in JULY and hasn't done jack shit since, even with other senators who are early lame ducks. 100
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 07/10/2026He's also REALLY far ahead here and Elon is just throwing money down a hole trying to sell people Darren Bailey. 110

Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Worked well in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race and it should work even better now that we can point out how he took a job with Trump and his team stopped screwworm eradication and fired produce inspectors so he could afford to build datacenters for his Nazi AI bot. 1727
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 07/10/2026Honestly, I can't imagine a better ad than "This ad is going to be short because I don't have much money, but look at this fucking Nazi who just threw hundreds of thousands of dollars at my opponent!" 315313

Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 06/10/2026He just struck me as a decent and kind person and as a strong political candidate, even in a historically red state like Kansas (which, notably, has been much more competitive over the past few years.) And Roger Marshall is an empty suit who lives in Florida. 050
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 06/10/2026I've listened to a few of his interviews and come away impressed. I'm not religious myself, but I was raised that way and I have a HUGE chip on my shoulder against politicians who twist or cherry-pick scripture to make it fit their political views and he absolutely didn't do that. 150
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 06/10/2026If I was a senator from either party, I'd know that this isn't an administration known for patience and attention to detail and I'd be a hard no. Also, I definitely don't trust Trump not to try to give each county a choice of whether to set clocks back or not, which would be an absolute disaster. 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Really hoping that someone has gotten to them and told them that regardless of how they feel about time changes, the important thing is that the administration implementing the changes needs to offer clear guidance and a long timetable so IT can address some really thorny issues. 100

Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Kind of amazing that people don't see the path to prosperity in a party that's canceling people's healthcare, cranking fuel costs through the roof and applying extra-thick coatings of gold leaf to outdoor statues. 030
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Just thinking of times I've seen a movie and one of the pre-previews (along with the ads for siding) is for a special showing of a religious movie I've never heard of, showing at noon on Sunday and I know EXACTLY what that is, even if Jim Caviezel is somehow not available to star in it. 010
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Just got to have generative AI barf out a movie, sell it to a bunch of megachurches as "the movie the left doesn't want you to see" and then book a bunch of theaters to show it right after church lets out so they can drag the whole flock there. Probably a lock for $10MM, independent of quality. 280
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Honestly, they've made the "someone has a near death experience, their family prays really hard, except for one person who has lost their faith, the person who almost died recovers and the person who lost their faith gets it back" movie a million times; AI probably can't do any worse. 160
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026But I'm sure they hate him and they also have to know that this election's Senate class is largely in red states and retaining the Senate for the GOP would be a layup if they didn't have a president whose approval was in the 30s. 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Trump is still at 75%-80% approval among Republicans and probably higher among the ones who vote in primaries, so they all know Trump can cultivate a primary challenger and beat them and most are in safe red states and more at risk of that than losing the general election, so none of them speak up. 121
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I'd imagine they do. I'm sure at least a few of them are pissed about him backing Paxton over Cornyn (even though Cornyn was already cooked by the time Trump endorsed), successfully primarying Cassidy and scaring Tillis out of the race. 100
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Also thinking that if it gets to the Senate, it would make a world of difference to get even a single Republican vote and I could definitely see Rand Paul voting for conviction/removal. 110
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026The big thing on Hegseth would be the hearings prior to the impeachment vote, whether the House votes to impeach or not. If it does get to the Senate, Thune can limit debate and quickly vote down conviction/removal, but it's still worth doing... 120
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I realize that the House is out of session until after the election (to avoid holding hearings and a vote on whether to impeach Hegseth), so none of it will help with the midterms, but they should still use it as a tool, even if there's no chance of getting 2/3 of Senators for conviction/removal, 010
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Hegseth would be my first choice, but after Kristi Noem's tenure at DHS, Trump parked her in a position created for her. Hegseth has committed war crimes and made a ton of terrible choices, but Noem is probably more legally culpable. 110
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Definitely in favor of impeaching Trump, but also pretty much any of his cabinet officials (and ex-cabinet officials.) Impeachment gives Democrats a chance to hold a hearing and put all the accusations in one place and force Republicans to vote on it. 110
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026If everything is going places with a chaperone, arranged playdates and whatever, I can completely see why kids going away to college wouldn't adjust to it well or why parents who were used to monitoring their kids every second might still try to maintain control when their kids go to college. 010
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026That's the big thing for me. When I was a kid, we'd go out and play and know to be back in time for dinner or (after dinner) when the streetlights came on or whatever. And we had chances to get into low-grade trouble (and have our parents correct it) while we were still living under their roof. 110
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026And I don't expect any of them to start now, BUT, we're also getting to the point where the people he's pissed off would be the deciding votes on committees and I could see them voting against him on appointments, Epstein files stuff or on something that funnels money to Trump. 000
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026And Susan Collins would LIKE to vote no on some stuff to show an independent streak (but never will if she's the actual deciding vote.) That plus Cotton is a deciding vote, even if they sway Fetterman. Granted, none of them ever show any real courage... 100
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Honestly, Arkansas should be an absolute slam dunk right now for a GOP incumbent (and probably still is.) But Trump has already pissed off Tillis, Cornyn, Cassidy and they're all lame ducks without a path back to elected office. Rand Paul and Lisa Murkowski occasionally vote against Trump... 100
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026It's also a vicious cycle. I can completely see an impressionable kid falling into this, blaming women in general and then, when they (wisely) reject him, confirming what he heard and falling deeper down the spiral and going full incel. Glad you had the talk with your son. 010
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Arguably not the biggest crime here, but that’s some absolute supervillain shit. “Yeah, boss, can’t afford the hollowed-out volcano lair with laser sharks right now, we can’t source the panda leather Kristi wanted, but we’re good to go on the manta ray skin table on Fuck Plane 5.” 051
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I really hope we remember Tillis not as someone who provided a minor amount of opposition but as a little bitch who was completely aware of the crimes and power grabs but did nothing meaningful to work with Democrats, Cornyn and Cassidy to put a stop to any of it. 010
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026And I know he partially meant it as a dig at Tish, but an ad with him hoping a bunch of Ivy League rapists get a “fair shake”, the clip of him wishing Ghislaine Maxwell well and any defense of Trump by a local candidate would be devastating. 052
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026I mean, “bottled Hugo Spritz” isn’t the worst idea. 010
Steve in Chicago @spsnomad.bsky.social · 05/10/2026This came in the middle of a week of epic Trump fuckups, but that comment should have been better news and I hope it gets clipped and thrown into a ton of ads. 142
