Ethiopian long-distance runner Yomif Kejelcha has broken another world record in an athletics discipline as he looks to monopolise cross-country as the fastest man ever.

The 29-year-old broke the half-marathon world record in 2024, running 13.1 miles in 57 minutes and 30 seconds, but has since lost that record earlier this year.

The baton was passed to Uganda's Jacob Kiplimo in March 2026, who beat that record by ten seconds.

But that athletics record has now been beaten, as Kejelcha has become the outright half marathon record holder again earlier today.

Yomif Kejelcha earns third world record in road-running athletic disciplines

As a runner who competes across all forms of long-distance road running, Kejelcha dipped back into the half-marathon discipline to regain his title.

Racing in Buenos Aires today (23 August), Kejelcha chopped off 29 seconds from Kiplimo's time, setting a new half-marathon world record at 56 minutes and 51 seconds.

The Ethiopian icon averaged a massive 13.84 miles per hour in his record run, completing a mile every 4 minutes and 20 seconds.

Kejelcha also holds the world record in 10,000km road running (26 minutes and 31 seconds) and is one of only two people ever to complete a full marathon in under two hours.

His full marathon time would have broken the world record in London this year, if not for the masterful display from Sabastian Sawe, who ran it in 1:59:30 - Kejelcha was just ten seconds behind.

Both runners beat the previous record by a minute, showing the massive gap that they are creating.

The world record dispute that riddles athletics

Kejelcha's new half marathon world record isn't technically the fastest we've ever seen, though.

Previous record holder Kiplimo once ran a faster time than he'd set, originally beating Kejelcha's time with a run of 56 minutes and 42 seconds.

But the Ugandan athlete was stripped of his best world record time, as the World Athletics board chalked his time off.

The run was deemed to have taken advantage of 'aids that violated the regulations' as Kiplimo entered the slipstream of the nearby lead car, allowing him to run with less air resistance.

"Pacing in races by persons not participating in the same race, by athletes lapped or about to be lapped or by any kind of technical device (other than those permitted under Rule 6.4.4 of the Technical Rules)," read the rulebook.

Kiplimo now wants to break the full marathon record, claiming that he thinks that its possible to set a time under one hour 58 minutes.

Marcus Rashford looks set to be staying at Manchester United after Barcelona decided against signing him permanently.

But it's not the case with Marcus because he left and people weren't happy. He went on loan.

"It depends. I think if Marcus comes back and forgets he's been an academy player for Manchester, and he forgets he's from Manchester, then he can do great.

"But you need to lower the pressure, and when the fans see that he doesn't make a run or whatever, they're going to blame him straight away. If I am the manager, I want Marcus in my team.

"It is the communication. I think it would be really important to see his conversation with Michael Carrick. What Michael Carrick will say to him to get the best of him - ‘forget about the media, forget about the pressure, I trust you.’ I want the best for Marius Rashford because he has still got it and we all know that. He's not an old player. Personally, in my opinion, yes, but also when you come back to your old club, it never happens like it was amazing."

Rashford could be like a new signing for United on the left flank or through the middle in a season where they will have Champions League football once again.

Their two significant additions have been the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos after Casemiro's exit on a free transfer. But with Manuel Ugarte on the sidelines for an extended period after surgery on a knee injury, the club are pressing forward with another midfielder and might finally snap up Brighton's Carlos Baleba after making an offer of £60 million plus £5 million in add-ons.

Evra has been pleased with the business done by United but feels they should have gone all-out for a striker - mentioning the name of Victor Osimhen.

He admitted: "I'm really happy with the transfer window with Tielemans and Santos. We lost Casemiro, and it would be difficult to replace him. But I think with these two players, we have got something we can fix. Kobbie Mainoo, I hope he's going to have more time to play. But anyway, Carrick, I love him. I just think United have brought some more hope.

"To win the title? No, we need more than that. I wish and I still don't understand why we didn’t sign a striker like Osimhen. You know, he's just crazy and I don't want him to end up in Madrid or Arsenal or whatsoever. So we need a big striker. We still need a left back because Luke Shaw has a lot of injuries, maybe to support him because now Dorgu can play left back, but as a winger, I think he's more efficient.

"It's more in the midfield to make sure Bruno will be free to be focused more on the attacking side. And midfield, I think that's the problem. Midfield."

Casemiro wasn't counted on by Ruben Amorim but worked his way back into his Manchester United side.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has shown his class by addressing his treatment from Ruben Amorim in a new interview.

The Brazilian, a £70 million signing from Real Madrid in 2022, has announced he will leave United in the summer after the two parties mutually agreed to not extend his £350,000-a-week contract.

That is despite United supporters calling for Casemiro to stay put after an impressive turnaround from the 34-year-old, who previously found himself out of favour under previous boss Amorim.

Having been one of the first names on the teamsheet under Erik ten Hag, Casemiro was in and out of the side under Amorim, who dropped him following a tough outing in a 2-0 loss to Newcastle in December 2024.

Casemiro was out of the starting eleven for United's next nine games and was an unused substitute in seven - with rookie Toby Collyer even placed ahead of him in the spell.

However, he managed to force his way back into the side and played a key role in the club's run to the Europa League final - where they were beaten 1-0 by Spurs in Bilbao.

Similarly, Casemiro has been integral to the United side which has secured a return to the Champions League with three games remaining under Michael Carrick, winning 10 of his 14 games in charge to climb to third in the table.

Casemiro has had quite the revival at Manchester United. Image: Getty

Though he is a five-time Champions League winner, Casemiro believes his resurgence which brought his return to the fold under Amorim is one of his top feats in football.

In an in-depth interview with ESPN Brasil, he said: “It may have been one of my greatest achievements because, with all the humility in the world, the most normal thing would be to say: 'Hey, the coach isn't using me? No problem, I've already won a lot of titles in my career, I've already achieved many things in my life and I'm here, the coach doesn't want to count on me, let him go and I'll stay here.' But no.

“I kept working, I kept trying to show the coach that he was wrong, that he was mistaken about me. I could have, as we say in the world of football, given up, moved on, and that's it.

“But I kept working, kept trying to change the coach's opinion, and I ended up succeeding, I finished playing and having a great end to the season, playing in a Europa League final.

“Despite having had several achievements in my career, this may have been one of the greatest achievements I had: reversing the coach's opinion. I wasn't playing because of the coach's opinion. And he ended up putting me in to play because of my merit and work, entirely my own.”

In the same interview, Casemiro backed interim boss Carrick to get the job on a full-time basis at the end of the season, telling ESPN Brasil journalist Joao Castelo-Branco that he "completely deserves it" and "has everything to be a great manager of Manchester United" as he has "already demonstrated very good qualities".

After his struggles, Casemiro has played 33 times in the Premier League this term - scoring an impressive nine goals from midfield.

Yet despite the clamour from United fans, Casemiro is adamant that he will depart for a new challenge - though he will still be "an eternal United fan" beyond his four-year spell.

He admitted: "I don't think there's a chance. There's no chance."

"Mostly because of what I said, you know? Go out the big door, I think it was four beautiful, wonderful years and I am eternally grateful not only to the club, but to the fans.

"But I think I have to leave in good terms, I have to go out on top. I will be an eternal United fan here in England and I just have to thank all the love from the fans."

Joe Hart's tattoos have been a major talking point online whenever the former England goalkeeper is on punditry duty.

Joe Hart has explained the meaning behind his eye-catching tattoos which serve as his "armour".

The former Manchester City and England goalkeeper has multiple tattoos on his body, including his arms, shoulders and legs.

Many are on show when Hart wears a short-sleeve shirt while on punditry duties for the likes of BBC and TNT Sports.

They became a huge talking point at Euro 2024 when Hart worked for the BBC in Germany, with the fully blacked-out ink immediately attracting attention from viewers.

Hart matched the blackwork on his upper body to his leg a few years back, praising his tattoo artist in an Instagram post where he acknowledged the ink was "not everyone's taste".

The two-time Premier League winner wrote: “You are the man @hanumantra thank you, this is the only time of year I could take this on so I appreciate you fitting me in and smashing it.

“I got my armour on now... let's see what's next. Not everyone's taste I understand that but this definitely represents me and thank you for making it happen.”

On his website, tattoo artist Hanumatra Lemar said that the specific ink is "a lifestyle and it's a philosophy and helps create "a modern day warrior ready for today's battles".

On his right-side, Hart has a blacked out section on his shoulder as well as two black hoops on different areas. He also has similar designs near his ankle and on his thigh and more subtle black band work on his left wrist.

In an interview with SPORTbible, Hart explained the power and strength that he feels from his tattoos.

“It started off as just a very thin band and then I moved to Italy and I've seen the kind of band work and the black work and then a friend in Shrewsbury who does it and it just really appealed to me," the TNT Sports pundit said.

“It doesn't actually mean anything, but I saw it as my armour. I love wearing it.

“It encourages me to stay fit and healthy and strong. Because a lot of people, it's not for them, but for me to think they look at their best, is when I look healthy, strong, aggressive.

“And it was kind of like my right hand side was very aggressive and on the left hand side I've got some more meaningful things in terms of family.

“So there's definitely two sides to me and I feel like that was a good representation.”

Hart's one-off role at former club

Hart recently made a one-off return to former club Shrewsbury Town last week, filling in as a temporary goalkeeping coach for their 2-1 win over Salford City.

It came about as a result of his friendship with new manager Gavin Cowan but without an interest in returning to the game in a full-time capacity as an "everyday world", he did it as a one-time favour when the stars aligned.

Speaking on his one-game deal, Hart said: "The goalkeeper coach left and they didn't have the finances or didn't have the power to bring someone in permanently yet.

"So we were just trying to get match day goalkeepers, I was trying to help my friends to organise that.

“And I said, ‘Look if I am available on a night and you need me I can do that’ - but just understanding that it would be a one night and one night only kind of thing whilst you get on your feet.

“The stars aligned, I could do Salford, we didn't say anything because the club and the team were doing really well.

“So I just warmed the goalies up, did my best to help them and left them to it.”

He continued: "I was really nervous for the team because I didn't want to take anything away from what they were doing. And obviously it's super serious, they're in a relegation battle at the bottom of League two.

“I think Gavin Cowan handled it really well, the club handled it really well. I was literally just looking after friends and trying to help the goalkeepers because sometimes you have to get warmed up by the kit man or whatever.

“I wanted to just give them a bit of quality, get them as set as I possibly could and then leave them to it.

“They've got the goalie coach now so they've got the full backroom stuff sorted.”
