Happy Friday! 😛 Makara, our 16-year-old skink, is showing off her adorable tongue. Prehensile-tailed skinks are the world's largest skinks, reaching up to 32 inches in length. Its slow movements and camouflaged coloring help them avoid being seen. They live in trees and are excellent climbers.

Still a fair bit of tidying up to do. Dragon is very true to the original box art, but I changed the colours on Prince Imrik, I couldn't bring myself to paint green and red. Also, quite pleased with the green stuff pennants and freehand. Nice upgrade to the paper banners that come with the kit.

Absolutely completely normal birthday gifts yes indeed

Andreana's birthday line. Transcript:
Happy birthday! Here's your present. I bought Monica one, and it worked really well, so I got you one, too. The bane of you people with messed-up work and rest schedules: an ultra-mega alarm clock. Fail to follow a schedule and you'll get an alarm loud enough to cause a tsunami.

Lucilla's birthday line. Transcript:
Happy birthday, Doctor! I've recently come to appreciate the unique beauty of the patterns found on paper currency, and I've drawn a copy of this bill for you. Is it a good imitation? Don't let people see it? Counterfeit money? What does that mean?

Thorns' birthday line. Transcript:
Happy Birthday, Doctor. Good timing. I have a gift for you. I put in extra effort to wrap it up so you will like it. Looks good, doesn't it? But I suggest you wear gloves when you open it. Just in case.

Mizuki's birthday line. Transcript:
I dunno where it came from... But they say if you mix a little of yourself into a cake, then whoever eats it will go crazy for you. Sounds... sick, right? Wait, Doctor, don't run away! I didn't put anything weird in this birthday cake, I swear!

How do u read this in a non-trans way

Deepcolor's birthday line. Transcript:
Here's a hand-drawn birthday card. Do you like it? Heheh. I have two birthdays myself, in a way. I achieved a new form, after accepting the gift. Here, Doctor, look—I created this color, but it is entirely yours.

This image rings true every time I try to get a cis person to understand the trans experience

“Talking about gender with trans people” ancient intellectuals having a conversation in a public forum
Vs:
“talking about gender with cis people” an adult holding a rattle right outside of a baby’s graps, presumably teaching the infant how to reach for items.

treating my burnout by designing new weird women

full-body drawing of an anthro claydol (pokemon that looks like a black and white dogu statue with a ring of red eyes around its head). the markings on her torso are made to resemble a robe, and what would be the head of a normal claydol is split horizontally so she can wear the top half like a wide-brimmed hat. there's also a big, pink ribbon tied onto her ass. her hair is made out of raw clay and is styled into a long braid. she's levitating two lumps of clay that vaguely resemble baltoy. finally, there's a doodle of what her face looks like underneath her hat.

Someone just reblogged this on tumblr with this tag and I just fucking died I've been on this shit for over a decade and it's only getting worse

kayinnasaki

written about this before but whatever.

Videogames as an artform have a problem with nostalgia. Not that people shouldn’t have nostalgia. Or that games shouldn’t draw from the past. But instead the weight we give to nostalgia.

When people go back to enjoy old games, we assume it’s a nostalgia thing. Do people assume that with books? Or movies? Or music? People certainly do go back in time with those mediums for nostalgia! It happens! I know when my sister is listening to certain cheesy old boyband pop or punk she’s often having a musical nostalgia trip! That’s cool! But we still don’t ASSUME, CONSTANTLY thats why people go back to stuff.

People like old stuff because it’s cool and interesting. It’s historic. People go watch Metropolis still, but how many people alive could even be nostalgic for a movie like that?

I almost want to see the word Nostalgia excised from discussions about video games – not because nostalgia is bad but because we over use it to the point where it’s actually harmful I think.

I mean I made IWBTG and am making an NES style game right now and even for me, the obsession with ‘nostalgia’ seems crazy.

Old stuff is cool. I know this because I see a lot of you kids on my tumblr feed talking about games I know you didn’t grow up with. It’s like finding your parents record or CD collection. Thinking the primary greatness of old games is bringing back memories of eating cereal and playing games on a saturday morning is a great injustice, even if those memories for some are perfectly worthwhile things.

#this post is 11 years old and still holds true

I went to the Moyse's Hall Museum today and this is my favourite ridiculous helmet ever.

From the museum Infor card:

Helmet with Hound Carving.

c15th Century From Hawstead Church, this helmet was mounted above a family tomb and represents their heraldry with hound symbolic of knightly values.
