Putting aside issues like environmental concerns, deskilling of educated workers, and vanishing availability of consumer product, it messes up the supposed "low skill, menial" work all the time in ways humans wouldn't! Why should I trust it to handle things I know to be heavily technical?

Head of a club I'm involved in had some AI model make a last-minute poster. "List these items, put it on this backdrop, put this club logo at the top." Simple. It fucking edited the heavily stylized text in the logo to misspell the club name. No one in charge noticed until it was too late.

The slop persists but so do we.

The partial archipelago is fine - has Barbuta, Porgy, Vainger, Night Manor, Party House (sort of), Divers (new!), and Golfaria (soon), alongside basic progress checks for all other games. It's all actively being worked on and tuned with feedback from community members.

Tangentially, for anyone interested in UFO 50 Archipelago - don't touch the "Full" mod. Its creator learned how to implement one game, got lazy, and entirely vibecoded the other 49. They could barely even be bothered to implement bugfixes their friend wrote for them.

When someone who sees coding as a creative, expressive exercise is lamenting LLMs sucking everything they love out of their line of work, "But look at how high my PR count has gotten since I started using Claude!" is quite possibly the most irrelevant, soulless response you could produce.

- About to give up and go get my laptop and USB DVD drive (which, in hindsight, probably would have been the better first choice) when my partner suggests just trying 0000. Bingo! Finally watch Rocky Horror Picture Show nearly 2 hours and multiple dusty, decades-old consoles later.

- My parents trusted us as kids and also never operated any consoles newer than the SNES, so *they* never put a passcode on the PS2. Which means the console must have hard required setting one up, and *I* must have set it. Try all the PINs I remembered using as a kid and none of them work.

- Poke and prod at it for a while and eventually, after a great deal of struggling from the motor, tray opens. Pop it in, it reads the disc, yahoo! ..."Parental advisory warning, raise parental control level to level 8?" Yes. "Please enter passcode." Uh oh.

- Plug in 360. It still works, yahoo! Put disc in. A full minute of weird clicking noises, and then it doesn't register a disc present. Welp. - Unplug PS2 from setup near streaming PC, wallowing through 5 metric tons of dust doing so. Move it up, get it plugged in. Disc tray won't open.

- It has a USB port. Maybe I can plug in a keyboard there and use that as a controller? Nope - in fact, the player shuts off entirely when I plug/unplug the keyboard. - Alright, time to dust off my old 360. Find controller. Corroded batteries again. Replace them.

Also, watching it was an ORDEAL: - We have it on DVD. DVD player (which is new-ish and we haven't even used yet) is somehow missing its remote. No on-board controls, remote hard-required. - Find what I think is its remote with nasty corroded batteries. Replace them. Nope, not that player's remote.

Partner hadn't seen Rocky Horror Picture Show so we watched that together last night, and I got flashbanged by the knowledge that the movie is just over fifty (50!) years old.

Oh whoops I didn't submit anything to AGDQ. Honestly still stuck on the UFO 50-tism for the time being and with it just being in SGDQ, getting it in immediately was unlikely anyway. Plus I've got a few other smaller events I've got my eye on rn.

people keep getting this wrong. a softlock is if a game is technically continuing to function, but it is in a state where it is impossible to progress (e.g. idaho). if it's entered a state where core functions don't work anymore and you can't reset out (e.g. florida) that's a hardlock.

Algorithmic age identification is hilariously unreliable. People are focused on having to upload personal info to prove they're an adult (fair!), but there's also the other side - it's going to incorrectly flag thousands of kids' accounts as adults and serve them personally tailored fanduel ads.

That brief bit of introspection and humanity aside - fuck this, this absolutely needs to be slammed and had enough noise made about it for the people at the top to feel. Discord already has an unaddressed child exploitation problem, and now we are baking gambling sponsorships into the platform.

Honestly, I don't envy Discord's social media team. It's typically an underpaid, underappreciated job, and these individual people likely knew better than anyone else that this is an awful idea. Being told to smooth this over on public channels is basically an impossible task they didnt ask for.

Immature, scarred, and pressured with a deadline to hook up with someone. This is a recipe for an absolute disaster of a relationship, and the crux of it all is the pressure - on personal/internal, familial, and societal levels all - to get the fairytale ending and find "true love".

Hot take: I liked Sayonara Lara's ending. I prefer a show ending in a way that doesn't go for "the obvious" and instead ends in a way that makes you say "huh, why would they go that direction?" It makes the show linger a bit and, with some further thought, the ending makes sense. Spoilers follow.
