a comission i completed for a clients fantroll who is a cerulean with long straight hair. Before I left after the unsatisfactory reply I got from chedd, that also ended up being my concern, his willingness to use his employees as shields from criticism of any kind left a really bitter taste in my mouth, even more when you posted that quote of him saying it took weeks to convince the team

This! Allot of the concerns afterwards were far more about the ethics of where Claude as a model comes from and of previous gen ai usage that had nothing to do with game devving. There was so much that felt ignored or pushed under the rug it still boils to know people don't get it.

The amount of times I fought during that whole ordeal about how it WASN'T just about Claude was astounding, it felt like it was always on purpose to specifically ignore the bigger issues that came with Claude being used.

MMO's are notoriously difficult to make, and expensive. When you go indie with MMO's you have to ABSOLUTELY be sure that you can handle it and unfortunately they couldn't and decided to sunk cost into using Claude which ALSO costs money to run and use.

It feels incredibly tone deaf from Chedd to say all of this, to claim to limit his impact, yet uses gen ai to use what any other normal search engine can do. To ignore the anti artist practices of Anthropic and to blame everyone but himself for his decision making.

I believe if it took weeks of debate for his team to agree to use Claude, that it was indeed some form of coercion, many times hes claimed that if they had not used Claude they would have gone under, despite the fact many have shown tools that do the exact task they claim to have "needed".

all they ended up doing is limiting their reach and squandering the good will and reputation they built up, now instead of having a source of income that could've helped the development, are now going to be getting less due to the lost of trust of their playerbase.

This! I cannot overstate that I was willing to spend two times that amount to buy the game both for me and my partner, I loved the game and was also just as willing to splurge on cosmetics and I would have had it not been for this. It truly feels like Chedd shot himself and his team in the foot.
