It's a great question, and you are right to be curious. Let's dive right in!

I made butter! It was easy! And tasty! Using cheap cream from the soon-out-of-date shelf in the shop. Win-win. Win.

A NEW CAR

He always liked a new car
endlessly patrolling town
to ferret out the best deal

after he’d stopped driving
and then walking
and then sitting
he still talked about it

as if life were a circle that
always returned on itself
given enough time
and not a tightening knot

to grin in blazing sun
to roar on open roads
a hope for better times
or for any times at all

I live close enough to work that I can walk there through the woods. It has its moments.

I'm at our stuga (a Swedish summer house, very low key) and the pump at the well appears to be broken. So to survive I'm collecting rainwater. In a kettle. It feels glorious. The water tastes of roof tile and has floaty bits but still - glorious!

I have reached a thousand followers. Some are bots. Some are OF girls who have never posted a single thing. Some are people trying to sell me something. But does that diminish my joy? It does not. Observe my joy. OBSERVE IT.

God knows we need some joy these days, and mine comes from fixing broken things. This Panasonic RX-5030L vintage 1981 needed a new drive band (sourced from the excellent DeckTech belts www.ebay.co.uk/str/manatree...) and a cleaning and tweaking and now it purrs like a kitten. What a beaut!

Some great rainbow action at our summer house. And for the record, the standard Swedish summer house is an old wooden farmhouse with maybe a shed but no plumbing and an outdoor toilet (you basically shit in a bucket). Just wanted to make that clear so you don't think I'm trying to be all fancy...

We keep the land at our summer house wild (mostly, if I'm honest, due to laziness) and it's a religious experience to stand by this field of wild flowers and listen to bees and wind and birdsong and silence. What human could want any more than this?

With any piece of media, I am watching for the moment when I can relax, where I trust the person and where they're taking me. I call it the safe hands moment. For the new Olivia Rodrigo album it came ten seconds in. I loved it from start to finish. A gorgeous and remarkable achievement in pop music.

I missed a meeting in the past
And Outlook to and fro
Kept bugging bugging me until
My rage was breaking through

And when I took the prompt away
Reminders like a drum
Kept beating beating till I thought
My mind was going numb

And then I felt a new update
Come creak across my soul
With those same popups once again
My screen began to toll

As if my software were a bell
And I a helpless ear
While silence calm and certainty
Wrecked solitary here

And then an AI agent said
It’s time to dive right in
Hitting praise at every plunge
And finished knowing - then -

Wisdom can occasionally be found on LinkedIn.
The reason so many people passionately hate AI is because it is society's way of saying "you don't matter."

*You spend 20 years carefully honing your craft, then your CEO who has never done your job says "just run everything through GPT."

*You work overtime to build entire systems while every keystroke is logged and coded so that AI can steal your entire work history and replace you.

But it's worse than that because you are also on the receiving end of extreme disrespect:

*Every time someone sends you an AI message, they are saying "I deserve your time, but you do not deserve mine."

We have always been cogs in a machine but AI is now rubbing our noses in it and explicitly telling us the system would be better off without us here at all.

And for what? We are optimizing all the joy and purpose out of life and making everything a little bit worse in exchange for almost no benefit. And then people have the gall to pile on and say "adapt or get life behind." Left behind from what?

My son, selling his old Pokemon cards for daft prices, reminded me I have this complete set of Star Wars bubble gum cards from 1977. Which I personally bought. In 1977. Don't think they're worth much, though. Still, very weird to think it's almost 50 years since I got them.

A lot of AI images remind me strongly of the images in Jehovah's Witness material. They had the whole AI style going before AI even was a thing. Or maybe the major LLMs were force-fed millions of issues of The Watchtower... And don't even get me started on 50+ suddenly being "senior"...
