KJ and Meredith are joined by first time guest Merrilee (Fear-Coded podcast) to talk about Lady Gaga (and also this episode of Supernatural, if they must). It’s a body swap! KJ leads a crusade against the memory of John Winchester (what else is new?) and dubs the actual ghost in this episode a bit of a dick! KJ and Merrilee take the show on a hard left tangent about the Jurassic Park/World Franchise. This episode raises a whole new set of loopholes around the vessel plotline that need to be discussed. CW Episode Description: Gary (guest star Colton James), a teenage nerd, conjures up a body-switching spell and changes bodies with Sam. Thrilled by his new handsome and built body, Gary (now Sam) investigates a case with Dean and takes advantage of his good looks and age by hitting on women and getting drunk. Meanwhile, Sam is stuck in Gary's teenage body, dealing with intrusive parents and high school. Making their debut (long overdue!) on Supernatural Opinions, it’s fellow podsquad member Elayna joining KJ and Meredith this week. And consensus on this episode is: this psychiatric hospital should be closed immediately and indefinitely. Dean Winchester gives some truly horrific health stats in this episode and KJ comes in with a list of where the average person should be just to make it that much worse.  CW Episode Description: A former hunter named Martin (guest star Jon Gries), who is currently institutionalized, calls Sam and Dean for help investigating a case in the mental hospital. The brothers get themselves admitted as patients to check out the mysterious monster that is attacking the patients, but their incarceration pushes both to the breaking point as they unleash their inner demons against each other. This week’s midseason finale hits KJ, Meredith, and their guest Androids right in some big feelings. KJ and Meredith step into this fandom and convention-centric episode of Supernatural with the help of fandom podcaster Sadie Witkowski (In Defense of Fandom). This episode takes place at a convention and there are some suggestions we’d like to see at the existing Supernatural convention circuits! There’s also some talk about the portrayal of fans in this episode and a deep desire for a Ghostfacers reference and everyone picks who they would cosplay as at this style of Supernatural convention. CW Episode Description: Super fan Becky (guest star Emily Perkins) uses Chuck's (guest star Rob Benedict) phone to trick Sam and Dean into attending a Supernatural fan convention, complete with fans dressed up as Sam and Dean. One of the activities is a live action role playing game, but things quickly turn sour after a real ghost appears on the scene. KJ and Meredith are welcoming a new voice to the show this week, David (Gimmicks, Fear-Coded, Are You My Mother?) to talk about an episode of television that loves television. David brings his expertise in genre-bending TV, KJ accuses the Supernatural writers of colluding with the Grey’s Anatomy team, and Meredith has to update our mythology section now that The Trickster’s true identity is revealed.  CW Episode Description: The Trickster (guest star Richard Speight Jr.) throws Sam and Dean into an alternate universe where they are characters in different television series, including a sexy medical show, a Japanese game show, a forensics show and a sitcom. The brothers realize the only way to get out of this world is to play along and become the characters in the shows. However, Castiel appears and warns them this universe is dangerous and they must get out before they become trapped. KJ and Meredith are joined by first time guest Michelle to talk about this week’s episode that digs into the concept of aging and high stakes betting! Turns out KJ and Meredith don’t know anything about poker at all. And this week’s villains of the week earn a coveted title from Meredith.  CW Episode Description: Sam and Dean discover a witch (guest star Hal Ozsan) is running a high-stakes poker game where the currency is life years vs. money. Bobby (Jim Beaver) sees the game as a chance to get out of the wheelchair and bets 25 years, but loses. KJ and Meredith are joined by JJ (@jjbwaywatch) to talk about Taylor Swift and fandom. JJ leads a lot of this one which is super exciting as the episode covers mono-culture, the impact of the pandemic on fandom, our personal experiences with Taylor Swift and fandom, and speculation about the upcoming twelfth album The Life of a Showgirl. And of course they tie it all back into Supernatural. Episode recorded on August 23, 2025. Joining KJ and Meredith this week are two first time guests Alyssa and Meg. This week’s episode leads to the most complicated and potentially controversial death count segment to date, thanks to alternate realities, demonic viruses, and the humanization of an angel. Meredith gives us the 4-1-1 on Lucifer in the mythology segment, while KJ alternates between gratitude for Sam’s socks and a plea for ethical non-monogamy in the event of post-apocalyptic life.  CW Episode Description: Sam tells Dean he wants to rejoin Dean in the battle of the Apocalypse, but Dean tells Sam that they are better off apart. Later, Dean awakens five years in the future in an abandoned city and is attacked by humans who have been infected with a demonic virus that turns humans into Zombies. Zachariah (guest star Kurt Fuller) appears to Dean and explains that this is the world that exists as a result of Dean saying no to helping the angels fight Lucifer. Dean meets up with Future Dean, who tells him that the virus is the Devil's endgame for destroying mankind. Misha Collins also stars. KJ and Meredith are sitting down with fellow Pod Squad member August (Saving People, Queering Things) and first time guest Nell (Totally Normal About That) to talk about this very destiel-heavy episode of the CW’s Supernatural. There are two things we know this week: Bert and Ernie are gay, and so are Dean and Cas. KJ does in depth analysis about Sam’s sleeping positions. The crew gives some advice on how best to interact with new co-workers without causing an HR incident.  CW Episode Description: Not sure he trusts himself anymore, Sam decides to give up hunting, but a late-night visitor (guest star Adrianne Palicki) won't let him off the hook that easily. KJ and Meredith are joined by returning guest Nick and first time guest, a true tumblrino, Androids! KJ calls into question the location planning of the panic room and the liver and kidney function of Bobby and the Winchesters. Reupload of Discussion 17 - Originally posted August 26, 2024, in honor of the apparent death of 9-1-1's Captain Bobby Nash (KJ is subscribed to buried alive theory until the credits roll on the S8 finale) ............... Have you ever invested significant emotions and time into a franchise only for a character who has spent all their screen time valiantly overcoming their demons to be struck down (maybe poetically, maybe just cruelly) in the final moments? Had all their character development undone for the sake of symmetry? (If you answer no, I've got bad news for you about some upcoming content on this podcast) Were you left emotionally bereft when a character was killed off instead of given the in-universe time and resources to manage their trauma? Well, you're not alone! KJ and Meredith are joined this week by Mary (Carrying Wayward) and JJ (@jjbwaywatch) to talk about some shows and movies that ended in the death of a major (and thoroughly traumatized) character, and discuss why this trope is so popular with writers but maybe less popular with the audience. Spoiler alert for the endings and/or major character deaths of the following pieces of media: Supernatural, Teen Wolf, Sons of Anarchy, Veronica Mars, Game of Thrones, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, The Princess Bride, and Timeless.
