Hopefully there won’t be a next time to hear Nick Krall say he builds the Reds around defense. What a joke. Failing by one’s own standards.

In the last 14 years of Reds ownership by the Castellini family, the team has not finished either first or second place in a five-team division. Finished 4th or 5th ten times.

Eugenio Suarez may hit a ball into the Ohio River in his next at bat (and I hope he does). But he’s been one of the worst players in baseball. Not competitive most at bats.

Spencer Steer’s extra-base spray chart. Meanwhile Brantley pounds the desk about Steer’s success depending on hitting for power to the opposite field. So eager to push that narrative he’s misinforming listeners.

It’s sickening and discouraging to think of suffering through another generation of Reds ownership by this family. Phil has proven to be out-of-touch, and dim-witted.

What’s going on with Brian Kelly tonight?

Scary Antifa types showed up today in the Lexington KY rally, just like JD Vance said.

Oh yeah, Hays starting over Benson.

One is the Dodgers starting pitcher tonight. The other is Nick Krall and Terry Francona’s choice for a #2 starter in the postseason.

Sigh. The Reds rank 24th out of 30 teams in hitting to the opposite field since May 1. It’s a lower rate than last year or the year before. In fact, it’s the lowest rate of opposite field hitting by a Reds team in 50 years. But narrative, I guess.

Pitch one from Burns to Judge was called a ball.

TJ Friedl’s hit spray not counting that HR. All his extra base hits have been pulled. Every one.

TJ Friedl has a career-low rate (18.3%) of hitting to the opposite field this year. And nearly a career-high pull rate (52.8%). But don’t let facts get in the way of broadcaster love of the old timey narrative.

If your thought was “well, who else could the Reds bat second?” (a fair question) here are the Reds’ xwOBA numbers as of this morning.

Reds hitters average exit velocity, league average is 89.5 mph.

Who could help the Reds with their offensive woes? I’m going with the guy with a career 145 wRC+ over the one with a career 74.

With Steer unable to play the field due to injury, that leaves 10 position players to cover the 7 non-catcher spots. Four (Fraley, Friedl, Hurtubise and Lux) are LH. Today, the Reds are starting two converted IF in the OF, one of whom has a career 58 wRC+ vs. LHP. Fairchild would have helped.

“continue to” and “field championship caliber team” feels like real Baghdad Bob propaganda. It’s laughable to take seriously or feel excited about.
