The one thing I don’t understand is knowing where my audience is. The rest is actionable to me. Setting up accounts, and posting regular. But I don’t know where my audience is. The game is a near future sci-fi visual novel about ai (I wrote the outline years before the AI mess we are in now)

Commit or don’t bother. If you’re going to do something.Do It! From the start all the way up to the end. No diversions. No side tracks. Ask yourself the question “Does this help me ship my game?” If the answer isn’t an obvious “Yes!” Then don’t waste your time on it.

You’re not alone I had an artist I worked with tell me that this year he had to quit. He loved the work but I couldn’t pay him enough. He said “I just can’t chase the dream anymore.” And he did chase it! he moved out to Seattle, contracted with WotC and valve. But never got that break he needed.

I don’t know enough about your project to know which path you should follow but speaking generally Godot is fine for small scope projects it’s extremely compact, you will hit a drought of information if you go beyond the basics. It’s why we left. Love the engine but our project outgrew it.

Unsure of your difficulties with Unreal but having switched engines…twice 😬 it’s not a simple endeavor. You have to relearn a lot. Unless there’s a specific thing an engine can do that you absolutely need and can’t do yourself it’s better to stick with the one you have, warts and all

Welcome to the club. No one spends every moment loving the game they’re working on. It takes a lot of faith to keep going. And it’s hard sometimes. My advice? Learn to love the PROCESS of game making. Celebrate the breakthroughs and small wins. And work consistently. That’s what counts

Speaking as an indie developer it has little to do with anti cheats. It’s because the libraries I use only support windows. Sure I can work around it but then if I want to use another library I run into the same problem so it’s like is it worth the time and effort for 1% of the users on steam?

Compatibility is always going to be a moving target. Even Playing older windows games on windows is a huge PITA (looking at you Jade Empire) Proton has been a huge help. And while Microsoft can obviously make a handheld I struggle to see the value add (as far as compatibility is concerned)

Just got word that our video game script draft clocks in at 129 pages. That’s the size of a feature length film! And that’s just main story! We still have a few transitional scenes and character interactions to smooth out the story flow! #gamedev
