131.dreaming

i wish i could run from myself
from the crippling things
and the gnawing things
from the bile of culture and
the smoke of oncoming future

i wish i could help those i
hold dear, that i could lift up
those precious people, those few
places, those little embers that
lift the weight that crushes forever

i wish i could work unburdened
by time and the gnawing hateful
self and its thousand angry voices

i wish i had the skin i wear in
dreams. i just don't know if she
or they would see and feel as i do
