Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 09/01/2026Had quite the run today at Karuizawa, including three separate advanced courses, 23.5km travelled, 12 lifts and a top speed of 48.6 km/h. Kind of just ran the whole resort, so I think I need to aim higher next time. Luckily this weekend is going to bring lots of snow! 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 01/09/2025There are middle class people voting republican? Sure, many may think they are middle class, but I’d wager very few people voting republican actually ARE middle class. They’re working poor or filthy rich. The latter know what they are, the former don’t. 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 01/08/2025I love his name and this reminds me of the Japanese pronunciation which is just WILD. Edowagarannpo. Why? Because Japan of course. I just ADORE your kitty’s name. I have lived half my life in this crazy country… matched with the time spent in the crazy country of my birth. 011

Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/20254. Lastly, let me end on a highlight. All the homages to the animated film were wonderful. They're all imperfect, and that's OK, because perfection means perfectly duplicating the original, which is boring, and, probably wouldn't have been as enjoyable. This film was a good balance. Thank you! 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/20253. Ariel singing to Eric from the rock needed more emphasis, less realism. This feels a lot like #2, but it's more about selling the highlight moments of the film, even if it's at the expense of physical realism. Talking fish and birds aren't real. Bend how waves and water move a bit. 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/20252. Emphasis on realism over theme was a bit extreme. Ariel was representing the red sea, and she needed better representation of that, even if it's just a color streak, a tattoo, etc. It could even be woven into the story. 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/20251. The CG was lazy. There was a LOT of physical interaction with Sebastian and Flounder in the animated film. That's hard in CG, I get it, but do better. Even Rodger Rabbit found a way. Ariel was drowning on her own, and the support of her friends was CENTRAL to the original. 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/2025Ok, #disney, please take notes. I grew up in the 80s, and loved #thelittlemermaid. Honestly, #HalleBailey made a pretty good Ariel. These points I didn't like though, and it has hints for your film department moving forward: 🧵 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/2025Ok, admittedly the ending was a bit different than the animated film, but again, I don’t understand all the hate about #HaleyBarry in #thelittlemermaid. It was a good film, and her siren-song singing really sealed the role. 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/2025I’m doing a job he’d probably consider low productivity. I’m also a highly skilled and experienced software architect. My current role is to facilitate the success of others. That means my production output is quite poor. Not all essential parts of a system are directly productive. 070
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 13/04/2025So… admittedly, I’m only 30 minutes in, but why did people react so negatively to the new #littlemermaid again? It’s gorgeously well done and pays so much homage to the original, while also having a character of its own. I can recite the original line by line, and I don’t hate this. 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 30/03/2025Through all that, see the humanity (for lack of a better word) in alien creatures and the abhorrence of yourself fellow humans, who also happen to be the real aliens. What I’m saying is, it wasn’t a great movie, but I don’t feel guilty for liking it. It was definitely not a bad movie. 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 30/03/2025This movie was about dehumanization, both of alien creatures and other humans, and had some visceral gut punch moments. You want to save this life? Do it using your teeth to hold the rope its life depends on. Degrade yourself before the villain to do what’s right, but definitely not dignified. 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 30/03/2025There was a fullness of the human experience to Micky 17. It’s no art movie to be sure, but, it has a richness to it that the setting belies. That’s what good SF is really though, it removes the setting from the ordinary to depersonalize the real issue it’s depicting. 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 30/03/2025Mickey 17 was by far the better acted and directed movie, with believable character development and an emotional storyline. With better SFX to boot… than SNOW WHITE. Seriously, whoever green lit that movie for release, needs to go to film school. They clearly didn’t, or slept through it. 100
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 01/03/2025What the actual hell did I just listen to with that exchange between Trump and Zelenski? Trump voters... are you... happy with this? Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 30/11/2024Interstellar is ten years old and Lupin is 45! The former doesn’t seem ten years old, and looked amazing in IMAX, the latter ends with such a corny throwaway line, it could ONLY be from the 60s or 70s. It also looked amazing for being that old, but the background pans HURT. Still, fun movie night! 000
Charles in charge @splinteredreality.bsky.social · 30/11/2024What on earth did I just watch? A double feature of Interstellar and Lupin castle of Cagliostro, both in IMAX. Interstellar was WAY TOO CROWDED for a ten year old subtitled movie. Lupin was amazing, but the animation jitter and frame rate was painful at times, especially on a huge screen. 120
