If you're ever in Hamilton, ON, visit the Steam & Tech museum- it's one of the earliest surviving Waterworks in Can. Proclaimed the 'cathedral to water' it's a unique & glorious 19thC historic site. You'll learn everything about how *bleeping* important public water was & still is.

The first Hamilton waterworks: two 19th century stone buildings, one a pumphouse, the other a boiler house sit in front of a very tall brick chimney.

I've always voted Green, but I voted #liberal to turn our riding from very blue to red. (I HATE strategic voting, but we can pressure govt about changing our system once this elxn is over) #votecanada

Did Canada Really Burn Down the White House?
In the Spring of 1813, American forces captured Fort York and later burned many buildings in Upper Canada’s capital of York (now Toronto), including The Legislative Assembly, by the end of the year Newark (now Niagara-on-the-Lake) had been razed, and in early 1814 most of Port Dover burned as well.
These acts of arson set off a string of retaliatory acts by the British and their allies and on the evening of August 24th, 1814 after their victory at the Battle of Bladensburg, British soldiers and sailors marched to Washington. They then set fire to the US Capital, Washington Navy Yard, and the Presidential Mansion, also known as
‘The White House’.
