September 30th is Orange Shirt Day. It’s been an impactful reminder of the intergenerational trauma caused by the loss of culture and language. But also an important step in the healing and revitalization process. www.juneauindependent.com/post/orange-...

When the Alaska Neighbors surveyed them last month, Tom wrote “Corporations pay their share first. A broad-based tax on Alaskans income is a last resort, not a first move” while JKT wrote “will likely be necessary to pass broad-based revenues for AK to have sustainably balanced budget”
Tom ranks “Alaska should have an income tax on high earners” as 3 while JKT leaves it blank. Tom writes
“Income tax is a 3 because I support it as part of a balanced revenue plan, but only after the state closes the Hilcorp loophole and phases out legacy oil field tax credits, which recover hundreds of millions of dollars without asking a single working Alaskan for another dollar out of their paycheck. Corporations pay their share first. A broad-based tax on Alaskans' income is a last resort, not a first move” JKT writes “I believe it will likely be necessary to pass broad-based revenues for the state of Alaska to have a sustainably balanced budget.

As we are seeing now in Cook Inlet, oil and gas deposits are finite resources that our economy cannot depend on forever. As governor, I will carry out my constitutional duty to maximize the benefit of these resources for Alaskans, including reversing the decline in the proportion of Alaskans filling jobs in the oil and gas sector. At the same time, I will work hard to diversify and galvanize our state's economy by developing new industries built around renewable energy resources and supporting the growth of start-ups and entrepreneurship across the state.”
