Oopsie! Managed to miss one. Flo and Joan's One Man Musical. This is great. Have to be honest, I especially enjoyed the bit that went wrong (no spoilers so can't say what).. it was handled so beautifully I wasn't completely sure if it wasn't a bit - it wasn't. This is great fun, if a little libelous

Copycat at Pleasance Dome is another show that I wasn't sure what to expect. This show is beautifully crafted. From how he gently engages with the audience at the start to depicting darkness, he handles it beautifully, with a range of voices. This is a must see in my opinion.

Aidan Jones Chopin's Nocturne was ... not what I expected. The adult content was a surprise. But the combination of live music and comedy and storytelling worked very well. Don't go expecting a concert - but classical music is at the heart of this show

Edinburgh Fringe day three. Gridlock at Patter House (didn't it use to be Patter Hoose?). A 45 minute play, but felt longer. I feel like it's a play with potential. The actors were very good, the story line interesting. The flashbacks were clumsy, but I think that was due to the small space.

Finally: The Best of Burlesque: New School. This is a crop of new burlesque performers, and as might be expected, it was a mixed bag. A couple of performers seemed nervous, but there were genuine gems among them. Of course the acts are different every night, so my review doesn't mean much!!

Next up: Reuben Kaye. Politics, comedy and song all wrapped up in a beautifully camp package. Hopefully recommended if: you are not maga. You are not easily offended. If you are ok with jokes that may be 'too soon'. It's genuinely a great time.

Next up was Tale of the Firebird. They were down one person, and had to re-plan the show at short notice. We would not have known - although maybe we missed out on some acrobatics, as the balance could have been better. It was a combination of fire, acrobatics and live strings, very talented act.

... it shouldn't just be one shade of feminism. Reece Witherspoon famously talked about 'what do we do now' - well there was a song pretty much all about that. And feminism isn't a choice between putting yourself in the pretty box, and choosing to be a builder. You can be both! Not for me.

Day two of Edinburgh Fringe started with the much hyped Bliss. Was it overhyped? Sadly, yes. There were some fabulous voices, and the dubbing of a main character that has lost his voice worked exceptionally well. Unfortunately the story let it down. If it's going to be a feminist story...

The final show of the day was Garry Starr's classic penguins. My third time in three years. This show is a fabulous combination of really smart and utterly bonkers. There is nudity, but it's not gratuitous. I've lost count of how many people have gone based on my recommendation. Everyone loves it.

Show two was Extra Lives, an interactive musical game show. This was really well crafted - they have put so much time into making this. If you have children, this is a great show. For me as a solo adult? Not so much. Geeky adults would be better served with tartan tabletop. Take your phone!

Edinburgh Fringe. My favourite time of year. Three shows yesterday. First up was @sarahhesterross.bsky.social . She is not for everyone - but if you appreciate a great voice, comedy and feminism then this show is for you. Her audience interactions were positive and affirming. Loved it.

in different roles was well done. People will be singing 'Em and Dex, Dex and Em, Em and Dex' afterwards. But - and it's a biggie - I still hate the story. It's a male fantasy of getting exactly what you want despite who you have shown yourself to be. Em would not have chosen that life at that age.

The cast were impressive, especially the leads. I enjoyed the 'in the round' staging, although the people behind me thought it gimmicky. And the way they used the moving stage was very effective. I don't think it would have worked nearly so well on a traditional stage. The use of the same actors

I should have known. But for some reason the promotions that I had seen hooked me in. I read the book several years ago and hated it. Great premise, but the story was poor. But yet I found myself booking a ticket to see One Day the Musical at the Lyceum in Edinburgh. There was a lot to enjoy.

@showstoppermusical.bsky.social is a bit of a must see. I made their first show this year, and it did not disappoint. It was fabulously titled '5,6,7 Quake', and it might be my favourite so far. Every night is different, so who knows what today will bring. It might even be your suggestion!

My next pick for @edfringe.bsky.social is Mary Queen of Rock, by the local female-led Pretty Knickers Productions. A riot of colour and sound, the (slightly historically inaccurate) depiction of Mary Queen of Scots is a total joy from start to finish. It's 90 minutes, but they went by quickly!

My first highlight of @edfringe.bsky.social is Lovett. A one-woman show about Mrs Lovett of Sweeny Todd fame. @lucyroslyn.bsky.social is magnificent in her portrayal of the famous pie-maker. She gives us a masterclass in not only embodying characters but also in captivating an audience. A must see.

public transport can be a bit of a nightmare. But I'll put up with that for the sheer quality and variety and affordability of the entertainment available. I know some people think it's expensive, but there are bargains to be had if you look! I'm going to highlight some of my favourites.

Best time of the year in Edinburgh, it's Fringe baby! I know there's plenty of people here that hate it because it's crowded and it makes living here harder during August - perfectly valid. Edinburgh in August, if the festivals aren't your thing, is definitely best avoided. It's busy and noisy and

comment on the entire cast, but it would probably come across as gushing. I guess I'm not a good critic, as I don't have anything to pull apart. After the show I did hear a couple of audience members suggest that it was a bit too Glaswegian - which probably means it was just right. I would go again🌟

Wild Rose is joy from start to finish. It's impossible not to love Dawn Sievewright's version of Rose-Lynn, despite her character's very obvious flaws. Blythe Duff is perfect as her long-suffering mother, looking after the grandchildren who both had a lot to say, and both were word perfect. I could

Adaptations aren't always the best, no matter what genre it's being adapted from and to. I adore the film Kinky Boots, for example, but the stage version doesn't grab me nearly as much. So I was a little bit hesitant to go to see Wild Rose at @lyceumedinburgh.bsky.social. It was completely unfounded

was entertaining at times. There were two moments that I laughed out loud. But really it was a fairly self-indulgent look at the first two years of parenthood by two women that are privileged and well supported. The second half was taking questions from the audience. I decided to leave at that point

what Stacey and the host, Jamie have experienced in their short time as mothers, with two small mentions of women from the book. The host, who is a make up artist, not a presenter, treated like a chat with a friend. In fact I suspect we heard more from her than we did from Stacey. It certainly

Stacey Dooley was at the Assembly Rooms, for a night titled 'Stories from Remarkable Mothers'. I went along - I'm a mother, and I know many remarkable mothers. This has the potential to be a really life affirming evening hearing about motherhood. What we got was more a bit of an insular look at

unexpected and very satisfying ending. But was it scary? Most of the audience were laughing more than screaming (I'm not sure that the comedy was intentional) although I did see one audience member say she thought it was scary as she was leaving. I'll give it a generous 3/5. #theatre #edinburgh

Ghost Stories at the Festival Theatre. I was very much looking forward to this, having heard from friends how good it is. I was left feeling rather disappointed, in all honesty. That's not to say there wasn't good stuff - the set was impressive for a touring show, and everything built up to an
