Destructoid and Cohost refugee. I like talking about video games, so why don't I talk about it with you? Still waiting on XP to unlock more hobbies.

So one day online coop won't be playable ever again? Cool, cool.

Sounds like a recommendation, then?

This is a good question. You can eat them now and regret it later, or stow them for later and regret it later, too, because it'll probably go bad by tomorrow. Is there any way to store sushi that keeps it fresh?

The best thing about homemade sushi is that it's delicious and you made it yourself. The second best thing is that you suddenly realize you can make a shit ton of sushi for so much less than at a sushi place.

The first half of #CONTROLResonant is pretty good, sometimes great, but the second half is some of the best quest and level design #remedygames has done. I know all the kids like to talk about liminal spaces, but there is a bevy of headspinning sections deep into this game. #blutoid

If anyone's wondering why there's no VR in AC8...

I just got the F16C, and god damn are the differences in handling super noticeable this time around. It's almost like the PS2 days, almost. Also getting an EW plane for the wingmen is brilliant and I'm slightly mad I didn't think of it myself.

I dunno if this is a hot take or not, but the Disney worlds of KH2 suck major ass. If it wasn't for the COVID lockdowns I doubt I would've stuck with it.

Imagine going to a fancy restaurant and ordering a meal you're familiar with, but then the chef tries to wow you and reinvent it by changing up some ingredients. It's a good meal, you're just not sure it really needed that much lemon, the sage was a weird addition, and you miss the basil.

I'm constantly taken aback by how big this installment of the 4-hour arcade plane shooter series is.

Lanterns stuck the landing, even if I wasn't sure where it was going before the finale. I still have issues with how they presented the alien aspects of GL, but on its own it's good on the whole. Definitely a Tom King story. Would appreciate a second season to frustrate me some more. #blutoid

I'm up to M07 so far, I'm finding it just a *bit* exhausting cause of how long the missions are, combined with the pre- and post- mission scene, but I'm still having a lotta fun. Just spacing it out a bit, which isn't a bad thing when you've been waiting for a game for 8 years.

The period from Heritage to Sorceress, as a whole, is my favorite era of theirs.

It's also where Logan actually sounds and acts like a Logan, and Liam McIntyre really nails the voice. The rest of the game, though...

It gets better. Best to think of it as an ARPG and not a DMC-like. The only thing you're juggling is buffs and status effects, there aren't really combos.

He didn't diddle anyone, but he is Elders of Zion-level antisemitic. I did feel FL was a great entryway into Hitman, you're gonna have a lot of fun.

I'm 90 minutes away from finishing Wolverine, but there are other games right now that aren't wholly mediocre. not entirely sold on Control Resonant's combat so far, but it has been steadily improving. Otherwise the game has been great so far. 5 missions in, Ace Combat 8 is probably my GotY.

I loved LA Confidential when I saw it years ago, but unfortunately Spacey and Pearce make it hard to go back to. First Light is incredible, a bit long in the tooth, but really nails the feeling of playing through a Bond film.

You won't believe this, but it'll end with the bad guy winning and then the sequel will end with the good guys winning. Truly groundbreaking stuff.

Can't help but think they're trying to drown out the "we shot this without a finished script" discourse. But yeah, it's bad, and it's doing the opposite of selling me on a movie that was already a hard sell for me.

Hey, I watched some of those movies! Odyssey was good, but I think it has the usual Nolan weaknesses - flat characters, inane dialogue - and the final scene was awful. Kinda forgot about it by now tbh. RE was the most fun I had at the theater this year. The baby was an all-timer visual gag, my god.

The ending really wore me it out. It's not so well written or original that it should have gone on for all those 80 hours.

It's definitely evolving the more I play it, but I definitely suggest keeping an open mind throughout your time, and maybe not obsessing over the open world content. It's a game that's exceedingly easy to get into bad habits with.

It reminds me of PS2 era drowning in DMC-likes, but we're still being served 2011 and 2019 FromSoft mechanics cause game dev takes so long now. When I saw Wolverine had a parry I said what the fuck are we even doing here.

I'm not that adverse to DS influences in a 2D Metroidvania, but these are all really good points as to why it doesn't fit well into CV. Still need to play the demo, but very well articulated argument.

SpikeyWigg @spikywigg.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I dunno if I'd even call that one a Metroidvania. It's mostly combat (which was very good tbf) and very little backtracking.

Yeah, I've been playing AC for over 20 years now and it's a fun way to mix things up but you're totally good without it.

SpikeyWigg @spikywigg.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I also haven't finished Yotei yet, remind me, do the abilities gate map progression? If so it's very similar, yes. My main issue so far is that it also impacts combat, which is mechanically very basic and relies a lot on synergies and buildcrafting that open up the more abilities you find.
100
SpikeyWigg @spikywigg.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I have the the AC7 HOTAS and honestly no. It's a good fit if you're a flight sim freak or you wanna spice up a replay, but I can't recommend it to anyone just trying to enjoy AC. Like Andre said this is a controller-first game and you do not miss on anything playing it that way.

SpikeyWigg @spikywigg.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
But in an open world this design philosophy can foster bad habits of trying to do more side content than you should and postponing progression. Like I just got an ability which would have really helped me 5 hours ago. It's a very bold move from a studio that's always one title away from bankruptcy.

Where ER stays mechanically identical throughout, Resonant is more of a metroidvania? It's not hard to figure out where to get which ability if you're attentive to the area design ("oh, this area has a lot of grappling points, that area has a burning furnace, there all the walls are upside down...")

SpikeyWigg @spikywigg.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I have been, yes, and I'm both enamored and maddened. In a weird way it reminds me of Elden Ring, where your route through the story is not predetermined and they trust you to figure out how to chart your path, but unlike ER the route heavily impacts ability progression and not just builds.

How are the stealth sections? I usually find stealth-horror to be a hard sell because it feels more limiting than either genre on their own.

We can always DM in vain hopes of changing each other's minds XD (though dehumanization is the topic of my PhD, and of course genocide relates, so I always find the conversation interesting and merited). Seriously though, always a pleasure. Btw, will you be jumping into Control Resonant?

2 is pretty fun if you're okay with your eyes being saturated with the color brown. It's the most brownest game of the brown generation. A Killzone remake is interesting. Remaking medicore games to wring out their potential is a fine endeavor, but also who cares about Killzone nowadays, let alone 1

Referring to the first part, I'm reluctant to elaborate on my views in 240 characters I doubt anyone cares anyway, but I disagree it is a false equivalency when the difference in violence is of means rather than intent.

SpikeyWigg @spikywigg.bsky.social · 29/09/2026
Referring to the second part, this is why I find that aspect of TLoU2 so uninteresting, because it flattens the two sides to their most superficial characteristics and thus fails to come up with any argument other than "it's complicated". Druckmann is thus responsible for every player interpretation

Fwiw I don't think Part II was ever intended to justify any one side, and personality other than seeing a synagogue and having Jewish representation I found the handling of either side banal. The original's dealing with the ethics of the Shalit exchange was much better, and is still relevant.
