Serenity 🌊 One of my gouache paintings that I really like even though it's an earlier one :> (done during @justindonaldson.bsky.social 's landscape course!) Currently available to buy here: www.lorenala-art.com/shop

A gouache painting of the beach with big rocks in the water. The rocks' red color makes a nice contrast to the blue of the sky and ocean.

I think about it all the time. 😔 I wonder if historians will some day call it the "golden age" of the internet. :')

Today, I am trying to capture the motion of the ocean and “sea glitter”… I have studied the sea up close A LOT today… whilst trying hard NOT TO BURN MYSELF MORE #paintjng #cornwall #sennen #sea #bsnm

Painting on the beach. Boiling hot. Sand everywhere. Love a challenge tho. Trying NOT to burn today

Trying to capture the sea glitter and sparkles that you see down here. Beautiful, it is…

Don’t forget that it’s #MakeATerribleComicDay ! I’m making one right now! It’s coming out really scrappy but it will be done in a couple hours. While you’re waiting, make one yourself!

Just because people post a hundred pictures of their dog or cat, doesn't mean I don't appreciate every single one. ❤️

I am so bad about posting my own art on here lol, which is awesome and chill for me cause I am still making stuff without the pressure or need to share it, but it's hard to find moots when you don't share what you're into. 🙃

Day 4 of #pleinairpril! A scene from my dad's old boat at sunset 🌅

A digital painting depicting a lake at sunset. The sun is glowing bright orange as its reflection ripples across the water's surface, and there are many clouds stretching across the blue orange sky.

I am enjoying Imperfect Women. I don't get the hate. But I also couldn't stomach finishing Handmaid's Tale, so all I can figure is fans following Elizabeth Moss were hoping for something similar, but this show feels VERY Kerry Washington to me.

If it's a collection of a single artist's work, I love seeing the sketches or notes that led to the finished piece on the right. And then some exploration sketches in between projects. It's kind of like a window into the artist's creative parallel to their life.

Cool, my first bsky rant. Kind of scary, actually. No need to "Um Actually" any of this, it ain't about that. And thanks for reading. Stick around for more hopecore posting. Now it's time for coffee and work.

Spiffy.Works @spiffyworks.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

Maybe AAA jobs are dead for artists, but then so is a talented team of 100 churning out Call of Duty 27. FIFA 2034 uses football footage and player photos for likeness. So those artists go make a FIFA parody game instead. NBA Jam makes a comeback. A pig-headed soldier hangs from the gallery ceiling.

100

Spiffy.Works @spiffyworks.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

Then comes the camera. No need for talented painters painting realistically, anyone can take the photo they need for any level of publication or gratification. Realism painters are redundant. Animators replaced with mocap data. Anyone can write a prompt. It's all got no soul though, without artists.

100

Spiffy.Works @spiffyworks.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

Ray tracing and AAA with this race for realism causes the style of many studios to train for this singular look, people go to school to learn how to render in the same style. Not only is the finished piece a commodity, but so is the training. The passion, lifestyle, and pipeline is homogenized.

Spiffy.Works @spiffyworks.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

When I think about playing games as a kid, the fidelity limitations really sparked imagination. Pixel art on a black void was sort of like a cave painting. As the tools got better, we got environments with characters living in them. The work is still impressionistic enough to allow for imagination.

100

Spiffy.Works @spiffyworks.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

This is of course not about the art an artist loves to make, but the type of art that consumers are investing in. The stuff that goes in the art history books. I wonder how many artists painted like Gogh or Dali before the public was ready for a style change. Makes me think of JMW Turner.

101

Spiffy.Works @spiffyworks.bsky.social · 17/03/2026

Interesting that if I look at art history, and how fine artists' work tends to evolve over their lives, the abstract impressionism dada stuff happens as a response to the realistic academic styling, which followed after more symbolic artwork. I wonder if the AAA industry will take the same path.
