It's a good thing to do what you need to to protect your mental health. I've found that, no matter which fandom it is, there is always a degree of toxicity that comes with people who are too involved and make it their identity. Knowing how to step back and prioritize reality is a vital skill.

It's mentioned early in the fic that Shadow is holding some resentment for being created flawed while being held to high standards. He believes Gerald was a master manipulator, who didn't actually feel any real love for him or Maria, viewing them both as his science project.

Expanding Popcorn lore right now, wanting to get into more detail about Shadow's resentment of Gerald. Shadow Generations came out after I started the fic, and the way they portrayed Gerald is pretty different from how Popcorn Gerald was designed, so I shifted away from that plotline.
