Today’s commute: Husband gets off at his stop. Dude gets on, looks around, proceeds to PLOP DOWN RIGHT NEXT TO ME. There are empty seats around. I refuse to move. I will not be intimidated! Dude gets off at his stop. Another dude gets on. SITS IN THE SAME GD SPOT. Still with empty seats.

I’ve discovered it’s easier to take the metro in the wrong direction one stop and jump back on going the right direction than it is to get on at L’Enfant Plaza. No elbows being thrown and usually get a seat.

My take on the iced coffee drama: not being able to wait 30 minutes to buy your coffee seems to be more worrying. I had an-person interview and bought my coffee after as a treat for crushing the interview (and what began an 8-yr career in writing). Patience can be rewarding sometimes.

It’s been quite the trip. Again, NOT a vacation. There was literally no vacationing happening in the past 10 days. I went to Hawaii and never set foot on a beach. Between chopping down trees at in-laws house and my mom’s obsession with K-dramas, I’m very ready to get back to my own brand of crazy.

On the second leg of our trip from HI to CA. Although the closest I got to the beach was seeing it from a window, I am so grateful for the time and stories we had with my in-laws. I’m sore from tree chopping and laughing. Also, the flight attendant keeps refilling my wine. And I have free wi-fi. 😂

I’m in Hawaii, but make no mistake, it is NOT, I repeat, NOT a vacation. Husband and I have been helping to clear his parents’ land of fallen trees, overgrown sugarcane and bamboo. I’m so glad we can help, but I’m also jet lagged and now ridiculously sore. Related: decaying sugar cane smells awful.

My agency is granting telework to anyone who drives in to the office for two weeks because of the Grand Prix. This doesn’t help the majority of staff who take metro and will be squished like sardines since our offices are at *the* primary metro stop. I drive halfway. I wonder if this would count?
