Ruth Ben-Ghiat, a scholar of military authoritarians, believes Hegseth can accomplish a lot without traditional bureaucratic levers. "I see him as a bridge to radicalizing the military," she told me. "If you're planning a fundamental reorientation of the military - and you're going to go past the third rail of deploying against Americans - you have to really shift the whole mentality, shift the culture, permit radicalization. Already, I think we're pretty far down the road."

Hegseth, for his part, feels he can accomplish a lot with a little. In his book The War on Warriors, he draws inspiration from the biblical story of Gideon, a military leader who led a pared-down force of 300 hardcore believers to a decisive victory over an army of thousands. Hegseth notes that Gideon was imperfect, and fell prey to personal vengeance, but that he ultimately enjoyed divine grace and was named one of the heroes of the faith. "When we maintian our covenant, we are Gideon," he concluded. "God on our side, heroism and victory in our future."

There's plenty to cover in the Captive Dreamer story, for example his suggestion that the wave of women posting alarmed tiktok videos post-election were just a psychosexual rape fantasy. The guy credited for having a big role in "saving Western Civilization" is a blatently misogynistic racist.

I would also be putting my best investigator on the Captive Dreamer beat. He was widely credited w/in MAGA for pushing the Springfield Haitian panic into the general discourse. For example, did you know Captive Dreamer is a giant fan of racist "intellectual" Jared Taylor?

The clip was of a West Linn City Council meeting in 2020 where, Edtl said, Walters threw a profanity-laced temper tantrum while trying to “silence” a concerned citizen’s public testimony / free speech. In the clip he says the citizen wanted to talk abt BLM. But that's not exactly true.

The man saying this doxxed a child as part of an effort to turn a middle school fight / bullying into an anti-trans issue based on the perceived gender of the child. His crusade got the attention of Libs of TikTok, which was followed by bomb threats on the school.

The 3-day "Her Voice" conference that began yesterday in Portland is doing something very common in Charismatic circles, which is hosting a trauma bonding event that exposes the "confessor", quite literally w the camera, and elevates the "redeemer" (not christ, but the speaker).

Sometimes PDX tweets: "Oh, now they're doing an alter call for people who had abortions. The camera pans over the crowd who came forward. (A reminder, you don't have to obey people who are performing on a stage.)"

As Oregon's GOP Senators continued their walkout over abortion/gender-affirming care yesterday, a small rally was held in their support. Lots of familiar far-right faces, including the perennial Christian Nationalist protest team from Salem's River Church - Pastor Lew & Pastor Andrew.
