64 years ago, on the 27th of September 1962, Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was published. It handled the environmental harm caused by the pesticide DDT and the disinformation spread by the chemical industry. Carson managed to sway public opinion and even policy. #otd #history 🗃️

#birdpaintingoftheday is a cactus wren in red. Saw this little guy dancing underneath hot cars in Tucson picking off bugs Why he’s red is why most of my art is colorful - he/she just felt red to me. So the only way to capture the moment was in reds. And pinks.

Black vultures are social and can’t smell very well compared to turkey vultures and they only grunt and hiss. But since they use their keen eyesight to find carcasses, they must enjoy color - particularly red. Just a colorful black vulture portrait - a new #painting #artshare #vultures

There are so many amazing things about California condors including they can reproduce through parthenogenesis - however the most amazing thing? They fly wild after going extinct in the wild in the 1980s. If you see them fly, it’s magic. #painting study to reveal that magic #sketchbook #vulture

Another sneak peek at the #vulture #paintings I’m working on. I have a soft spot for Griffon vultures after seeing them soar in the Pyrenees It’s magic to see something so right and as exactly as it should be - beautiful #birds just where they should be after facing near extinction in the 1960s.

Visited the Frederic Remington museum on Ogdensburg yesterday. Lots of interesting work and they tell a story of a man who worked hard to be the best and be recognized for it. He achieved some dreams but was taken from this world rather early at 48. #arthistory #fredericremington
