@giggls that data source and render it on a map like you have? I'd love to know more about the best way to build a pipeline using OSM data.

@giggls this is awesome! okay I have a couple of questions for you. 1) I don't see a tag for hiker/biker campsites. Those are defined well on this site: exploringwild.com/hiker-biker-camps… What would be the best combo of tags to add to a campground to convey this info? Or is there […]

Would anyone that is familiar with adding data to OpenStreetMap be willing to hop on a video call with me sometime to answer a couple of questions? There are some nuances that I'd love help with. I'm adding all of the data from GoBikeCamping.com to #OSM and there are some oddly specific […]

@Pionir do you using intervals.icu? it looked to me more like a training peaks alternative. i didn't realize they had APIs to get the data out. definitely worth looking into.

Here are the things I asked our users to rank in terms of importance to them (and also asked them to throw in suggestions): - Add trip sharing functionality (helps us get off of Meta) - Keep working on transit. Add more Amtrak lines/buses/regional rail - Add more types of POIs, like water, food […]

I sent an email out to our list for GoBikeCamping.com but I figured I'd also ask the awesome people on here. I've had decision paralysis and can't figure out what I should focus on for GoBikeCamping in 2026. The site started out as a way to find campsites while cycle touring in the USA. It's […]

@schnedan i'm US based and don't know any sites to add in Europe. Do you have any suggestions on where to look for info in Europe that I could add to the map?

@schnedan thanks for letting me know all of that. i'll see what i can do about adding messages when things are being blocked to flag that for people.

@schnedan lol there are many bugs. can you tell me how you got that to happen so I can fix it? what browser are you using? did you resize the page at all? it looks like the bicycle icon on the side is also broken in your browser. did refreshing the page fix anything?

would anyone be interested in a page on gobikecamping.com that shows the last 50 engagements? that would be check-ins, bike shops added, campsites added. that way you could see what's happening with the map. I think it'd be interesting. I'm curious if anyone else thinks that too. it'd […]

If you live in #Denver and like to ride bikes, I built this website with a calendar on it to help you find bike events/groups that you might be interested. www.events.bike let me know there are any events/groups missing that you're aware of.

events.bike | Denver Cycling Events

Find and join cycling events in Denver. Group rides, races, workshops, and advocacy events all in one place.

@Pionir these are great suggestions! Right now, users can contribute POIs to the map. I do need to expand the types of POIs. I would love to have a self-hosted version in the future. These are great suggestions!

@osma I'm in a similar boat. Strava just keeps trying to clamp down on access to our data, and the Komoot acquisition doesn't leave me optimistic for its future. I've been exploring some federated alternatives but haven't come across one yet that seems like what I'm looking for.

3/ federated, I'd eventually like to integrate ActivityPub so that people can follow your journey wherever they hang out on the Internet.

2/ - meta alternative, lots of info is also in Facebook groups and I want to get away from there. - blog posts don't paint the full picture, when reading a description about a ride I also want to see the map, and where on the map photos are taken. There's a lot of info encoded in that, and most […]
