Yes to Android foldable support. Now that foldables will be more widely available across ios and android we’ll consider Android foldables as well when we build these experiences.

Also fixed: sign-in verification failing after you sign out, screens getting stuck loading until you force-quit the app, settings resetting themselves, and the message box floating over blank space.

From settings, you can now select several members at once to kick or ban them. Links in user bios are now parsed. You can navigate to a link in a user's bio from a new button in their user view.

The app now handles large communities better and stalls less during long sessions and in busy channels. Check the new Apps & Bots tab in notifications to see what community apps are up to.

Lots of performance and stability improvements around text channels and DMs. We also tracked down a crash that hit about a second after launch. It had been there since version 0.9.15.

We're working on a brand new voice/video system to improve call stability across the @rootapp.com Last week, Jesse and I just had our first successful video + screenshare call on the new service across iOS + Android + Windows 🧵

Today, we promoted the system up to our internal environment for team-wide testing. Few bugs go sort through but things are looking stable. You guys are gonna love this.

@rootapp.com mobile version 0.9.30 is out 🧵 Most of it went to improvements around what happens when you come back to the app. Channels and DMs now catch up on their own after time in the background

Also fixed: a leftover call notification starting a new call on Android, and links into your other communities showing raw ids instead of names.

Spencer Taylor @spencertay.bsky.social · 20/08/2026
Switching themes fades now instead of flipping (because why not). And the Android app installs about 11% smaller, 74.6MB down to 66.2MB.

The message actions sheet's quick reaction row used to be five fixed emojis. Now it's the ones you actually use, custom community emojis included, ranked so it reads like recents on day one and settles into your favorites. Emojis and avatars load faster and stop re-downloading themselves.

Introducing… APP REVIEWS Your reviews go a long way: it helps your community install with confidence and hands developers the feedback they need to make their apps even better. These will be anonymous star ratings and the written reviews will only visible by app dev (for now)...

Playing with GPUs in @reactnative.dev. Our badges are flat SVGs. This demo traces the outline, extrudes it into a mesh, renders it with WebGPU (@wcandillon.bsky.social's react-native-wgpu + @swmansion.com's TypeGPU), and engraves your @rootapp.com's username on the back.

Bots automate, but it’s apps that create experiences. As Root gets ready to launch our community developer program, I wanted to talk about why Root supports both Apps and Bots and how developers choose between them. You can read more here: www.rootapp.com/blogs/why-ro...

Root is launching our v1.0 developer program! We’re building it around 3 ideas: - Build in the open - Developers have a choice - Apps are community experiences I wrote more about DevRel at Root here: rootapp.com/blogs/announ... Now let’s build!

Fixing it meant swapping out the video engine underneath the app for a newer build, then giving it a running start so the first few seconds aren't mud. I spent more time staring at bitrate logs than I'd like to admit (ask me about bandwidth estimators sometime).

Spencer Taylor @spencertay.bsky.social · 12/06/2026
The culprit was the part of the engine that decides how much video your connection can handle. It was convinced your network was terrible no matter how fast it actually was. Every call on every device I tested got stuck at the same blurry rate.
