The thing that has been bothering me about
TLOASG in general might actually be the thesis:
All the songs are a bit surface-level and really don't give us a peek into Taylor's zeitgeist at the moment. Which is actually VERY showgirl You can see me and watch me perform but you won't know the real me. The Showgirl is a persona that keeps the real Taylor in the background so she's putting out this music that does have story telling but it'sall "I'm so happy!!!" Or a retelling of things we know about her l.e. the album buying, people talking bad about her, people calling her the b word, someone younger and prettier coming to take her spot at the top- all things that have been talked and sung about already by her. So this album as a thesis is going to give us nothing new. She writes about her relationship with Travis but in a way that shows us actually NOTHING about the actual interworkings of their relationship.

I've been trying to understand how all these songs work together as a project and it is that: none of them are giving us any new info or perspectives like all her other albums do. We never got to see her and joe but we all got a ok into their relationship via songs (same with matty but with Travis it's all show(girl) no tell.
Like they are married. Their actual relationship is deeper than "I married him cause he picked me and loved me", Taylor could write about paint drying and make it seem groundbreaking so the surface level nature of these songs is on purpose and correlates with the name and project that is TOASG.
To be a showgirl is to leave a piece of you out of the spotlight. It's a persona you put on to perform and leave a layer of yourself away from the public.
