Uhh, no, not at all actually. The entire point of rule of law is that the sovereign is subject to the law, and the law is above the sovereign. This has been generally acknowledged since the French Revolution and in some sense even since Magna Carta.

I think the fact that something *may* be judged illegal by the courts should not stop someone from doing it if it is a virtuous action, as long as that person is prepared to bear the consequences. The courts are not even reliable in passing judgment about illegality for non-virtuous actions.
