Make Nicoise, take picture, I don’t make the rules. Actually, I do. Anyway, my Nicoise is my favorite. 🍽️
A plate with salade Nicoise. At 12:00 are potatoes. Clockwise, tomatoes, many colors, lots of cherry tomatoes. 6:00 is a quartered hard-boiled egg. Finally, yellow wax beans. Right in the middle: seared tuna, rare. All on a bed of greens and dressed with lemony-mustardy-tarragon dressing with lots of capers. A glass of light red wine was perfect. My plastic 60s-era Eeyore cereal toy spoon rider sits beside the plate, looking on approvingly.

We came home from being away for a week or so, and boy, did we have a lot of ripe tomatoes (despite a friend having come by to pick)! I'm tight on time today, so when I read your post this AM, I already knew what was going to be for dinner! Just put it in the oven!
A photo of a backyard garden, with a dense wall of tomato plants, dripping with small, very red plum tomatoes.A large ceramic bowl, with a hand for scale (the hand is about one-sixth of the circumference of the bowl - yes - it's big) filled with hundreds and hundreds of cherry and plum tomatoes.

From Waltham, MA. I saw many friends, chatted, encouraged people, felt uplifted by the honks. It's important to know that people aren't just coming to stand out - they are doing amazing work all the time. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something. Even if you do only come stand out!
A photo of my sign, which reads: To have nice things, say no to kings. The words "nice things" are in rainbow colors, "no" is in red, and "kings" is in orange. A small flower and peace sign in the top corners are meant to be examples of nice things. I use a dry erase board, which people have said is so clever, and I guess it is, but it really came about because I was in Staples last year before the first rally and couldn't find the poster board and it was lunch time and I was hangry and saw the dry erase boards and said, "Say - that's an even better option!"A view of Waltham Common showing people lining the sidewalks so their signs show to passing drivers. Because we don't officially have a permit to use the Common, we have to stick to the sidewalks, which is fine, because we're more visible that way. There are at least a few hundred people in this shot. Some of the rally goers from the back. One person's sign says "Pro family, Anti-fascist."The view down the Main Street sidewalk, rally goers holding signs and being peaceful and angry and hopeful and united.

Happy Pi Day! I made myself a wee pizza - it's kind of a lumpen circle, but it was yummy! 🍽️

Winter can be great with the right gear and hiking partner. The texture of this storm's snow is perfect for the snowshoes. And, once groomed a little, for frisbee catching! OK - gotta go - it's time for our afternoon walk!
A snow-covered sidewalk in partly shaded morning sun. Beside a more-used track are my snowshoe tracks and Enzo's dog tracks. The snow is at least 30 cm deep, but my snowshoe tracks are only about 3 cm deep. It still kicked my butt, but was very pleasurable walking.Enzo, a black and white border collie, standing in the snow with bare trees and a blue sky behind him. He has a relaxed open-mouthed grin because he knows we're almost back to the field where certainly there will be a game of frisbee.Enzo in the snow-covered field in a part of the field that has been well trampled by snowshoe stomping, dog tracks, and even the dreaded Boot Walkers. He has his back to the camera-slash-frisbee thrower and is leaping in the air, hind legs dangling, catching the frisbee (which is not visible; you'll have to take my word for it). Pure grace, athleticism, and joy.

A little bombogenesis wasn't going to stop our frisbee game (from yesterday).
Enzo, a black and white border collie, close up in our backyard with his face turned in profile. His face is frosted in snow, which is falling very hard and which has already accumulated about 30 cm on top of the 30 cm from the January storm.Enzo bringing his frisbee back through the snow. This picture shows a wider view of the backyard where the snow drifts on one side are about 30 cm from the top of the picket fence. Enzo doesn't care.Enzo's frisbee in the foreground, and Enzo watching me with a relaxed, open-mouthed grin in the middle ground, waiting for the next throw. He's using one of my snowshoe tracks from the previous storm, but even so, the fresh snow comes up past his belly!

SNOW. I'm so happy I have snowshoes. Enzo is happy he knows how to dolphin jump through the snow.
Enzo, a black and white border collie, about chest-deep in snow, getting ready to grab his frisbee off the surface of the snow, with wild eyes and an eager smile.Enzo waiting for me to throw the frisbee. Still chest-deep in snow, looking slightly away (he isn't a fan of having his picture taken when it interrupts the game), making his frisbee-spit icicle beard evident (he likes playing so much he drools a lot). Not many catches today, but we still had fun!

Today was a very good day to have: 1. A dog (Enzo!) 2. Snowshoes 3. Miles of trails in the woods across the street #Gratitude
A wide trail white with snow, bordered by trees that have snow clinging to their branches. Enzo, our black and white border collie, stands on the trail gazing off into the distance. He is not a fan of having his picture taken, so as soon as the phone comes out, he looks away. He's a little weird, but we love him a lot.A wide trail covered in snow with tall snow-covered trees flanking it, kind of like the inside of a cathedral.A snow-covered open area with snow-covered trees in the distance. Enzo is leaping to catch his frisbee, facing away from the viewer, who is also the photographer, who is also the frisbee thrower.Another picture of the wide snow-covered trail bordered by trees with snow clinging to their branches. The Waltham Land Trust has held a New Year's Day hike in Prospect Hill Park for almost 20 years. Today's was chilly, sunny, and icy, but full of warm fellowship and good cheer. We offer 2 routes, and this year we longer hikers managed to meet the other group at the confluence!
A group of about 20 hikers, all dressed for the weather, starting out on a hike on a snow-covered path that has ice underneath! Some business buildings are in the background, but the tall trees let you know you are in precious open space. As our group approached the place where the routes converge, the other group was RIGHT THERE! The secret sauce consisted of a few ingredients: don't be in too much of a hurry to start, put the faster leaders in the back to bring up the rear, and stop a couple of times to let the stragglers catch up and to take pictures.A hardy group of hikers, dressed for the weather, many wearing cleats and carrying walking poles, on a sunny winter day, at the top of a hill that has a view of Boston.Top of the hill, still, with a somewhat closer look at the view. Bright sunshine, a few clouds, but cold.

New Year's breakfast - mostly local, all yum. The black-eyed peas are kinda mushy, but they are delicious.
A plate on a crocheted placemat with a sunnyside up egg at 6 o'clock, going clockwise, a big pile of black-eyed peas that don't look appetizing but are delicious, a salad of tender winter greens, roasted vegetables including butternut squash and beets, and some goat cheese, and a slice of sourdough bread. Happy Frisbee Solstice to all who celebrate!
Enzo, a black and white border collie, about to leap to catch a frisbee. The lighting is a golden early morning sun casting long shadows and light areas on a field of wintery grass. Bare trees at the edge of the field allow a peek at distant hills.Enzo scampering away from the photographer (who is also the frisbee thrower) to try to snag a low throw. The sunlight behind us casts a golden stripe on the field. The sky before us is a pastel reflection of the sunrise, with some periwinkle clouds.Enzo airborne, back to the viewer, catching a frisbee. The lighting is moodier, with denser clouds, but with the pale yellow and blue sky toward the horizon.Enzo leaping to catch the frisbee. His hind legs dangle behind him, because he is an athlete who knows how to use his body intelligently. I never get tired of watching him. The sun has ducked behind a cloud now, so the bare trees in the distance look like they were drawn with India ink, with the pale pastel sky behind.

Enzo would like to wish all who celebrate a Happy First Frisbee Slobber Icicle Beard of the winter!
Enzo, a black and white border collie, standing in a sunny field, panting because he has been playing frisbee. It’s a cold morning, which is evident from the icicles of spit under his chin. He loves playing frisbee so much, he slobbers a lot. He cares not at all that he is sporting an ice beard.Another view of Enzo and his ice beard. Our friends were duly impressed. Our human friends. Our dog friends cared not at all.

Scenes from our morning walk on the ancestral homelands of the Indigenous Massa-adchu-es-et and Pawtucket peoples.
Early morning sun filtering through the woods in late fall. What looks like a stream flows in the foreground. It's really the flow from a storm drainage pipe, but it looks nice. In the distance, through the bare trees, the light glints on shrubbery in front of a pond and on the foliage on a hill behind the pond.Enzo the black and white border collie standing on the leaf-covered trail, with the early morning sun filtering through the bare trees. He is somewhat looking away from the camera because he's not a fan of having his photo taken and would like very much to get on with our walk.Enzo in a sunny hilltop field rimmed with bare trees and shrubs. Enzo showing how much he hates being photographed by making a face when asked to show off DCR’s handiwork.
Enzo, a black and white border collie, in quite a regal pose in profile, with his front paws on a large log lying on its rounded side. That log is next to several others, as the forest crew had to clear a fallen tree from the trail. Anyway, Enzo, the regal border collie, has his nose angled upward and his tongue lolling out the side of his mouth. Regal.

And I should have posted the "before" pic so you could see just how much work they had to do!
Enzo the black and white border collie gamely posing before a massive downed tree and all its branches. The tree is somewhat elevated off the ground, so between its circumference and height off the ground, it comes up over Enzo's shoulders. He made it over all the trunks and branches pretty easily; I took a little longer.

Shoutout to @massdcr.bsky.social for quickly taking care of a downed tree on the route of the Western Greenway 5K. Behold their handiwork, and Enzo being weird about being asked to pose for a photo (he is not a fan).
A trail in the woods lined with at least a dozen sawed sections of tree trunk, each about a foot high (25 cm), and some larger sections of tree on each side. It was a truly massive tree that was pretty hard to climb over when it was blocking the path.Enzo, a black and white border collie, posing with his front paws on a sawed tree section lying on the rounded side. He's kind of stretched out, almost like a show dog, and has his head pointing upward, in line with his back. His tongue is lolling out of his mouth. Here;s a W. Some trans friends said that 2 Dem TERF groups were holding an event at the VFW post in our town. Went up with this little sign to join them in protest. By the time I got there, they told me the VFW learned from them what the groups were about, and said nope, and kicked them out.

I asked Husband to get something out of the freezer for dinner while I was out, and he chose boneless chicken thighs. What to do with them? We sort of "noodled" some ideas, and this is what we came up with, and it was quite delicious. Deets in alt, but h/t here to Sfoglini and Penzeys! 🍽️
A wide, shallow bowl with a boneless chicken thigh in a tomato-rich sauce containing onions, carrots, mushrooms, garlic scapes, and saffron malloreddus from Sfoglini Pasta. The pasta shape is similar to gnocchi. The whole thing is seasoned with Penzeys Ethiopian-Style Pepper Blend, which is VERY cayenne-forward and has a rich blend of cumin, fenugreek, cardamom, cinnamon, and other spices. Really amazing. A glass of red wine accompanies this dish, and, as always, my 60s-era plastic Eeyore cereal box toy looks on.

When I make Salade Nicoise, I am required by law to take a picture of it. I might be biased, but I think my version is the best. But don't believe me; my friend, who I had over for dinner, also made yummy noises! Bit early for green beans, so we subbed broccolini and caulilini. YUM. 🍽️

My sign on a whiteboard. The main text reads "Do you hear the PEOPLE sing?" with "people" in rainbow colors. Quotes from the Declaration of Independence surround the main text in font too small to read, but they were there: For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world; For imposing Taxes on us without our consent; For depriving us, in many case, of the benefits of Trial by Jury; and For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences.A group of people on a street corner at the edge of our city common, most holding signs, some holding flags. It's a drizzly, gray day, but everyone looks enthusiastic and happy. I'd say this grouping is close to 100 people.Same corner, but a little later. Still lots of people holding signs. The photo was taken from across the street, so the crowd is evident - at least 100 people in this small sample. Cars are driving by; many of them were honking and waving and giving thumbs up and so forth. Joyous.A closeup of a sign, done in font that mimics the Dunkin' Donuts font. There is a photo of an iced coffee off to the side. The sign reads, "I only like ICE in my coffee. America runs on immigrants." This might be the most Massachusetts sign you could come up with.

Have a great rally, everyone! I'm going to the one in Waltham. And... I have the refrain in my head now, so there might be singing. @indivisiblewaltham.bsky.social
A whiteboard (so I can change the message each time) with large lettering reading "Do you hear the PEOPLE SING?" with the word people in rainbow colors. Around it in type too small to read are quotes from the Declaration: For cutting off our Trade with all parts of the world; For imposing Taxes on us without our consent; For depriving us in many cases of the benefits of Trial by Jury; and For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences.

Enzo, a black and white border collie, lying near a fallen maple branch. He has a small twig from it between his paws, and is working on turning the twig into mulch. Contributing.
