paint night at my school’s Audubon club, so here’s a bearded vulture! (watercolor, ~1hr) #birds #birdArt

A watercolor painting of a bearded vulture with vibrant red neck feathers, from the shoulders up, surrounded by leaves.

Apparently people are making rebellion symbols with state birds (because of Andor I think? I haven’t seen the show but I heard bird and jumped at the opportunity) so I tried my hand at a Massachusetts black-capped chickadee version. Circular guy :)

The Star Wars rebellion symbol, recolored to resemble a black-capped chickadee facing forward. The top portion creates the black markings on the bird’s face, and negative space implies the white cheeks.

We recently cleaned off the camera on our bird feeder and over the past couple of days it’s caught some delightful images! #birds

A Carolina wren perched on a bird feeder, looking curiously into the camera.

A striking male Northern Cardinal sitting on a bird feeder.

A male house sparrow with some birdseed in his beak, sitting on a bird feeder.

A Tufted Titmouse with its head ducked down to pick birdseed from the feeder.

A bit of an old one, but probably still my favorite example of sketch vs final piece

A very messy black-and-white sketch of an angry cat with another one standing behind it. A third cat looms on the right side of the screen with a sinister grin.

A dilute tortoiseshell cat hisses angrily, back arched. On one side of her, some not-quite-corporeal specter, a tortoiseshell with markings very similar to hers, wraps a protective paw around her. In the foreground, a gray cat grins smugly.

A couple weekends ago I had the opportunity to attend a bird-banding event at a local wildlife reserve. Here are a couple of the birds I saw before my hands got too cold to take any more photographs #birds

A tiny ruby-crowned kinglet in a photographer’s hold.

A white-crowned sparrow who looks very displeased to be held.

this gorgeous giant ichneumon wasp showed up to my sociology class today!! unfortunately enrollment deadlines have long since passed so I had to scoop her up and release her back outside

A female Greene’s giant ichneumon wasp perched on a black backpack. She has long yellow legs, an orange abdomen with black-outlined yellow stripes, and an ovipositor so long that it passes the edge of the image.

Possibly my new favorite visitor to the bird feeder: a mid-molt monstrosity of a blue jay. This was an absolutely delightful notification to receive #bird

A blue jay perched at a bird feeder, having lost all the feathers on its head in the molting process.

Finally completed my goal of taming and armoring every type of wolf in Minecraft (while my brother beats the game in every possible manner, lol!). It took 70+ wolves, but here’s a drawing of the nine species representatives.

Nine armored wolves in a row. The first is a large, tall wolf with black fur and black armor. The second is smaller and rounder, with dusky-brown fur, hazel eyes, and bronze armor. The third is a huge gray-and-white wolf with protruding fangs, ice-blue eyes, and dark silver armor. The fourth is a white wolf with blue-gray markings and silver armor that stands out against his orange eyes. The fifth is a brown wolf, facing the camera with alert amber eyes and wearing copper armor. The sixth is an old, pale gray wolf with green eyes and a crown built into his silver armor. The sixth is a small, wiry reddish-brown wolf with pale amber eyes and ruby-red armor. The fifth is spotted in black, white and ginger, with golden armor and green eyes. The sixth is a striped wolf with a mane down her back and pinkish-copper armor that matches her eyes. Each armor set is engraved with a symbol I made up for the breed, being in order an arrow-shaped pine tree, a heart, three claw marks, a snowflake, a four-leaf clover, a bone, an infinity sign, a fire, and a smile-like stripe.

Here are the last two pieces for my painting class, the eyes and the fish. (water-soluble oil paints) #art #queerArtist #disabledArtist

An oil painting of eleven eyes from different people arranged in a grid. Off to the side you can somewhat see the photo reference used.

An oil painting of a fish with blue-green and white scales and a red line on its throat, looking upward in front of pink-flowered plants. A couple five-petaled scarlet flowers add color to the sides of the painting.

ME?? drawing HUMANS??? inconceivable (this is a human version of an animal OC anyway) (the image just looks like a torso before you click it that’s so sad lol)

Woman with short brownish-blonde hair and heterochromia (left eye blue, right eye brown). She has scars on her nose and arms, and wears an orange tank top and jean shorts.

An oil painting of an Abyssinian cat looking at the camera. It has green eyes, and there is vibrant blue lighting in its pelt.

I read The Andromeda Strain and immediately saw the pun potential, so here’s a joke and a full art piece based on said joke because my ADHD said we weren’t done yet

Four cartoony doodled cats sit gathered around a bunch of hexagons in a honeycomb shape. One says “It’s growing”, and the rest each reply “Oh crap”. The image is labeled “the Andro-meow-da Strain”.

A fake book cover. A honeycomb of shiny gray hexagons with space for four missing segments, each containing a cat version of a major character: Hall is represented by aa angular brown cat with black markings and amber eyes, in front of a red background; Stone is a pale gray bicolor cat with yellow eyes in front of a yellow background; Burton is a slim ginger spotted tabby with green eyes in front of a green background; and Leavitt is represented by a dark gray Persian-type cat with long fur and tired orange eyes on a blue background. There are multiple sketches: a diagram of the lungs, a map of the cone-shaped laboratory, some connected hexagons, and the gear shape of the growing Andromeda microbe. The book is titled “The Andro-meow-da Strain”.

Testing out some different designs for harpies, experimenting with making them more humanlike or birdlike in terms of anatomy. Leaning toward the more avian build but it depends on what type pf universe I decide to write them into.

Digital sketch with two harpy fullbodies - one is built like a human with the gray-feathered wings and legs of a bird, and the other is closer to the original mythology, mostly bird with the head and chest of a human as well as brown spotted feathers. There is also a drawing of a wing with a hand built in, combining the bone structure of human and avian forelimbs, and a painting of a harpy’s face, with feathers covering the upper half and a hooked beak at the end of the nose.

since I haven’t really posted any pictures of my pets yet, despite this being a site full of pet photos, here’s my dog Aoife before and after being flipped off by a family member. Very sad

Aoife, a Great Pyrenees / Burnese Mountain Dog mix, smiling with her tongue out. She has fluffy cream-and-white fur and is wearing a collar. You can see my mom’s hand at her neck where she is being petted.

poem I wrote several months ago that feels somewhat relevant now (this post is more or less just an excuse to say, hey, you can read my poetry here! perchance.org/poem-archive-backup)

Poem entitled World’s End.
Transcript:
Have you wept yet for the long time lost?
Have you mourned the dawn that will not come?
Have you lamented the lives that will not be leaving?
Most importantly, have you grieved the very act of grieving?
Have you bargained with a stony face,
Or shouted to the gray-haired kings of earth
Only to find your accusatory eyes
Reflected off their polished crowns
And looking back at you?
Have you stepped onto a poorly-built pedestal
To find it splintering beneath your feet?
Have you been mocked by those
Who’ve already found their futures
While yours is set ablaze?
Have you seen young eyes devoid of hope?
Have you faced the drought before the deluge?
Have your tears poisoned freshwater pools?
Most importantly, do you, like them, take me for a fool?
(It’s easy to say
“Come what may”
When you have already lived your day.)
