Rufous Hummingbird #BirdoftheDay #birds these extreme migrators (longest in the world by distanced traveled/body size) mark the return of our spring, when they return from winter in Mexico. Creatures of habit, the same individual bird was found, on the same feeder, on the same day, 8 years in a row!

These are Red-necked Phalaropes and they are THE exceptions to the rules! “females” are more striking, “males” do the nesting & both spin in tight circles on the water’s surface creating vortices to bring their food sources up from the depths. We’re excited to see them, returning to the Salish Sea
