Saddened to learn about the passing of Former Senate President Pro Tempore Sandra Cunningham, a fierce advocate for the people of Hudson County and the State of New Jersey. May she rest in peace.

Thrilled to take part in the ribbon cutting today for South Amboy’s new Ferry Terminal. Area residents now have a more convenient way to get to Lower and Midtown Manhattan!

Athletes, coaches, and officials are people first, and none of them should have to face threats because somebody’s bet didn’t hit. Glad to be getting to work on this legislation with Senator Sarlo to protect the games and people we all know and love.

Anyone that knows me knows I love sports. Typically, basketball or football, or even on the little league field as a coach. I understand the excitement that comes with having something riding on the game, but losing a bet should never be an excuse to threaten someone.

In our state, we remember not only the enormity of the tragedy, but the strength we discovered in one another. That is how we ensure September 11th is never forgotten. That is how we preserve the unity that carried us then, and that must carry us still.

Here in New Jersey we lost more than 700 souls, but as the terrible uncertainty and silence soon fell over us as we attempted to comprehend what we were witnessing, it was there that we turned inward and opened our hearts.

This year, we mark a quarter of a century since that tragic Tuesday morning, now 25 years ago. Long enough for children born after that day to grow up and start families of their own. Long enough for a whole generation of Americans to know September 11th not as a memory but as history.

That's why I'm proud to see my bill, A3883, signed into law today, because it will help connect residents with qualifying opportunities so that more than 2 million New Jerseyans can continue to rely on these programs.

You shouldn't lose your healthcare because you missed a form and you shouldn't have your SNAP benefits taken away because you didn't know what counts as volunteer work under H.R. 1.

Today, on Food Bank Day, I’m reminded of our extraordinary efforts to rein in food insecurity in the state. Together, we’ve made truly tremendous strides but none of that would have been possible without the help of so many every day heroes working or volunteering to keep their neighbors fed.

September is Hunger Action Month, and during my time as Speaker, we’ve made the fight against food insecurity one of New Jersey’s defining priorities. I’m proud to say that in the that time we’ve passed more than 40 bills into law to make sure our residents have nutritious meals available to them.

This is more than restoring an iconic landmark. It’s preserving a piece of New Jersey’s history and helping the Convention Hall complex reclaim its role as a destination for arts, culture, tourism, and economic activity along the Shore.

Asbury Park’s renaissance has been remarkable, and this project represents another major step forward. Congratulations to my colleagues Assemblywomen Donlon and Peterpaul, our partners at the NJEDA, and the local leaders whose work and commitment helped pave the way for this next chapter.

When I crafted the CAFE program with the EDA, this is exactly the type of project we envisioned—reviving a culturally significant community anchor that will spur economic activity for decades to come.

As others make cruel attempts to walk back or challenge the kinds of care that every patient deserves, we in New Jersey, continue to stand up for the freedom and dignity that allows people to make the decisions that are right for them.

Through our work in the Legislature we have made it abundantly clear that in New Jersey health care decisions belong to patients and their families and I commend each of the sponsors for their hard work and thoughtful leadership in getting this bill across the finish line.

It comes from those who choose not to lose sight of their responsibility to the people around them, people like Officer Sicknick who stood firm when our democracy needed defending.

Just heard that New Jersey's RetireReady program has already helped 30,000 people save more than $25 million towards their retirement. Earlier this year we expanded the program so that more people can invest in their futures, even if you work at a small business!

They worried that taking time off to care for a newborn or a loved one in crisis would cost them their job, and for many, that fear was justified.

Job-protected family leave is officially in effect starting today! For years, our focus has been on making sure workers can take time away from the job to care for a sick parent or child without the fear that their job may not be there when they get back.

Importantly, my bill would give towns and cities the options to expand housing in ways that work for them, and it makes sure the resources are there to help make that growth easier.

In 2024, we enacted landmark legislation to spur the construction of thousands of new homes. We're building on that progress with A3877 receiving final legislative approval in June.

Speaker Craig J. Coughlin @speakercoughlin.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
New Jersey is a great place to live and our population is growing! But when more people are competing for fewer homes, housing costs rise. That means we need to increase the supply to help restore balance and improve affordability.
100
Speaker Craig J. Coughlin @speakercoughlin.bsky.social · 16/07/2026
In the Legislature, we know that the housing shortage has been years in the making, and that’s why we haven’t stopped finding ways to build more homes and lower costs for everyone.

I was proud to champion the Family Leave protections we enacted in 2019, and proud to be a sponsor on this bill, which became law earlier this year. If you're an employer or employee in NJ, now's the time to understand how these changes affect you! nj.gov/labor/myleav...

I’ve been fighting for working families throughout my time as Speaker, which is why I’m thrilled that starting on Friday, NJ will expand job-protected family leave to nearly 400,000 additional workers—including many newer and part-time employees who were previously locked out of these protections.
