The cartoon by Stephen Collins depicts the invention of the car and modern road systems in a "Transport Inventors Club" meeting, where the proposer's ideas are met with disbelief as they sound like a dangerous, existing reality.
The inventor proposes a "box made of metal" that travels at up to 120 mph.
He suggests using a single road with a white line down the middle to separate opposing traffic flows.
He also proposes that "random members of the public" should pilot these machines.
The other members express concern for his well-being, comparing his idea to a previous "commuter travel device" that was an "iron maiden fired from a catapult".

So sad.
The Statue of Liberty is tied to a stake, standing on a plinth that says "Democracy". The orange shitgibbon is holding a burning torch and addressing a MAGA crowd also holding torches, saying "She's a witch".

Nigel Farage now complains that mall businesses are drowning in ed tape. He calls it a betrayal, as if it were done to him rather than by him. But this is exactly what he built.
Brexit tore Britain out of the world largest frictionless market and replaced shared rules with endless duplication and border checks. The small firms he claimed to defend are the ones now buried under the paperwork he created.

I searched to see if I could give credit for this image, and it seems that it was created some time ago for a previous ceasefire. Can't attribute it, but it's still valid, and the fact that thousands have been slaughtered since it was created underlines how much there is still to do.

Saw this letter in last week's New Scientist. I'm a little younger than the author and equally fortunate, but that last paragraph really resonated with me. I'm so tired of the endless stupidity.
Why we feel too old after three score and 10 years

16 August, p 28

From Kate Brown, Canterbury, New Zealand

Your look at ageing was another great article from Graham Lawton. Interesting and informative with a good dose of optimism.

There is an aspect of ageing that isn't generally addressed. I have witnessed a number of my female relatives age, becoming "too old" by their own reckoning. I have also listened to many patients say the same during my work in hospitals. Now, at 69, I share their perspective. This is despite being in excellent health, physically fit, mentally alert and having a great quality of life. I am objectively one of the luckiest of the luckiest generation.

Put bluntly, one just becomes tired. Tired of the endless rounds of life. Tired of coping with the small, unavoidable niggles of getting older. Overwhelmingly, one becomes tired of impotently watching the suffering caused by the folly of humanity.

IF YOU ARE USING UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS' TAX RECORDS TO FIND AND KIDNAP THEM, THAN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THEM PAYING TAXES.
IF YOU ARE SHOWING UP AT THEIR PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT,
THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THEM NOT WORKING.
IF YOU ARE SHOWING UP AT COURTHOUSES,
THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT GETTING THEM TO "DO IT THE RIGHT WAY."
IF YOU ARE KIDNAPPING WOMEN AND CHILDREN,
THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT CRIMINALS.
IF YOU'RE REFUSING TO GIVE THEM DUE PROCESS,
THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE CONSTITUTION.
IF YOU ARE BUILDING CONCENTRATION CAMPS IN FLORIDA TO KEEP THEM HERE IN CAGES, THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE BORDER.
IF YOU'RE SPENDING BILLIONS TO DO THIS, THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE ECONOMY.
AND IF YOU'RE DOING ALL THIS IN THE NAME OF A 34-TIME CONVICTED FELON, THEN IT WAS NEVER ABOUT FOLLOWING THE LAW.

Photo of a letter to a newspaper which reads:

Sir, If the politicians scrambling to condemn a minor pop group at Glastonbury had stayed their outrage for a few minutes they would have seen, in the same news broadcast, the bodies of children being brought out of the rubble in Gaza, killed by ... the IDF.

Picture of the frog-faced fraudster, over text that reads:
Nigel Farage ranked 748m of 51 MEP'S for attendance, went to 1 of 42 fishery committee meetings & was fined 35K for fiddling his expenses. As an MP he has held no Burgeries, skipped 80% of votes and had ten jobs on the Side.

Cartoon by Will Santino.

All black and white apart from the cap. Man at pearly gates wearing red baseball cap. St Peter says:

"Says here you went to church your whole life and loudly proclaimed yourself a Christian, but worshipped rich people, hated the downtrodden, and cheered for cruelty. Like what the fuck, man?"

A lot of this stuff was new and exciting (well, for a certain set of nerds) when it was published. Now, it's all somewhat obsolete. I have some idea of how hard these authors worked to create these books and get them published and now, not many years later, they are purely of historical interest.
